We are seeking a qualified Environmental Consultant to provide specialist environmental assessment, monitoring and advisory services across our farming operations.

About the Role

The Environmental Consultant will assess and monitor environmental factors affecting our hydroponic and field-crop operations, with a particular focus on soil and growing conditions, irrigation water quality, nutrient management, land sustainability and environmental risk management.

Working closely with farm management and production staff, the successful candidate will collect and analyse environmental data, identify risks affecting agricultural production and provide practical recommendations to support sustainable and environmentally responsible farming practices.

This position combines field-based environmental assessment with data analysis, technical reporting and professional environmental advice.

Key Responsibilities

· Conduct environmental assessments across hydroponic facilities and land used for field-crop production.

· Monitor and assess soil and growing conditions, including salinity, pH, nutrient-related indicators and potential contamination risks.

· Develop and coordinate soil-sampling programs and arrange laboratory testing where required.

· Monitor irrigation and hydroponic water quality, including salinity, pH, nutrient levels, contaminants and other indicators relevant to vegetable production.

· Assess the suitability of soil, growing media and water conditions for sustainable hydroponic and field-crop production.

· Investigate environmental factors affecting plant health, crop productivity and the long-term sustainability of agricultural land.

· Assess environmental impacts associated with irrigation, fertigation, fertiliser and nutrient-solution use, agricultural runoff, drainage and farm waste.

· Identify risks relating to soil degradation, erosion, salinity, contamination and water management.





· Interpret environmental sampling and laboratory test results and prepare clear technical reports for management.

· Recommend practical environmental management strategies to minimise adverse impacts on soil, water and surrounding land.

· Advise management on sustainable farming, soil conservation and land-management practices.

· Develop and implement environmental monitoring programs covering soil, growing media, water, hydroponic systems and agricultural land.

· Review farming activities from an environmental perspective and recommend operational improvements.

· Monitor environmental performance and maintain accurate sampling records, laboratory results, risk assessments and compliance documentation.

· Assist management in preparing and implementing environmental risk assessments and environmental management plans.

· Research developments in sustainable agriculture, environmental management, soil conservation and water-resource management.

· Support continuous-improvement initiatives aimed at reducing the farm's environmental footprint while maintaining productive agricultural operations.

· Liaise with laboratories, environmental specialists, agricultural advisers and relevant external organisations.

· Assist the business in complying with applicable South Australian environmental and agricultural requirements.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will have:

· A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Studies or a closely related discipline.

· Professional knowledge of environmental assessment and monitoring practices.

· Knowledge of soil-assessment and water-quality testing methodologies.

· An understanding of environmental issues associated with hydroponic production, field agriculture, irrigation, nutrient management and land use.

· The ability to interpret environmental sampling data and laboratory test results.





· Experience preparing environmental reports, risk assessments and practical management recommendations.

· Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.

· Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear technical reports.

· The ability to work independently and collaboratively with farm management and operational staff.

· Solid attention to detail and environmental record-keeping skills.

· A current driver's licence and willingness to regularly undertake field-based work across the farm.

Highly Regarded

· Previous environmental consulting experience.

· Experience within hydroponic, agricultural, horticultural or other primary-production environments.

· Experience assessing soil contamination, salinity, erosion or land degradation.

· Experience monitoring irrigation water quality.

· Knowledge of sustainable agriculture and environmental management systems.

· Experience coordinating environmental sampling programs and working with external laboratories.

· Familiarity with South Australian environmental legislation, EPA requirements and recognised environmental best-practice standards.
