Camera House

Hornsby

We’re looking for someone with a genuine growth mindset who is eager to learn, develop their skills and build a career around photography.

This is a hands-on role combining photography, film, photo lab production, customer service and sales, so we're looking for someone who already has a solid understanding of cameras and photography, along with proven sales experience.

Before applying, please note: Photography knowledge and previous sales experience are essential for this position. Experience with film photography, developing or photo lab production will be highly regarded.

About Us

We’re a small, family-run creative business operating across Camera House Hornsby, CameraClix and Kaieda, with a simple purpose: helping people cherish, create and preserve memories.

That might mean helping someone choose their first film camera, printing a treasured family photograph, scanning negatives that haven't been seen in decades, or helping an experienced photographer find the right piece of equipment.

Photography isn't simply something we sell. It's something we're genuinely passionate about, and we're looking for someone who shares that enthusiasm.

The Chance

This role sits at the heart of our photo lab, production workflow and customer experience.

You'll work across a varied mix of responsibilities, from photo printing, scanning and film services through to helping customers choose cameras, lenses, film and photographic products.

No two days are exactly the same.

We're looking for someone who enjoys learning, takes pride in their work and wants to become an important part of a growing creative business.

You'll receive structured onboarding and training to learn our systems, services and workflows, with the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as your knowledge and experience within the business develops.

For the right person, there is genuine potential to grow with us long term.

Does This Sound Like You?

You might be a great fit if:

- Photography is something you genuinely enjoy, whether you shoot film, digital or both.

- You can confidently talk about cameras, lenses, exposure and photographic techniques.

- You understand film stocks and the fundamentals of film photography.

- You have previous sales experience and enjoy helping customers find the right solution.

- You're naturally organised and have strong attention to detail.

- You like finding better ways of doing things rather than simply following a process because "that's how it's always been done."

- You're looking for a role where you can learn, contribute and grow over time.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

Photo Lab & Production

- Assist with photo printing, scanning, film processing and other lab production tasks.

- Prepare customer orders accurately and with a strong focus on quality.

- Maintain an organised and efficient lab workflow.

- Carry out quality control before orders are dispatched or collected.

- Help maintain the high presentation standards our customers expect.

Sales & Customer Service

- Help customers with cameras, lenses, film, printing and photographic services.

- Use your photography knowledge to make confident and appropriate product recommendations.

- Provide friendly, knowledgeable service in store, over the phone and via email.

- Take the time to understand what customers are trying to achieve rather than simply selling them a product.

- Contribute to the store's sales performance and overall customer experience.

Partners & Suppliers

- Help maintain positive relationships with our production partners and suppliers.

- Coordinate orders and monitor turnaround times.

- Follow up on jobs and communicate with suppliers to maintain quality and consistency.

General Operations

- Assist with stock management and organisation.

- Prepare online and customer orders for dispatch.

- Support the wider team with day-to-day operational tasks.

- Identify opportunities to improve workflows and processes.

What We're Looking For

Essential

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

- Genuine photography knowledge, including cameras, lenses and exposure.

- An understanding of film photography and film stocks.

- At least two years of sales experience, ideally within retail, specialty retail or a similar customer-facing environment.

- A genuine interest in film photography and/or photo lab production.

- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

- Excellent communication and customer service skills.

- Confidence building relationships with customers and colleagues.

- A proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative.

- A strong work ethic and personal accountability.

- A willingness to continue learning and developing your photographic knowledge.

We'd Especially Love to Hear From You If You Have

- 5+ years' experience in specialty or photography retail.

- Hands-on film developing or darkroom experience.

- Photo lab or print production experience.

- Experience working with photographic printing equipment.

- Supplier, stock or order coordination experience.

These are highly regarded, but we don't expect every candidate to tick every box.

The Person Behind the Experience

Skills and experience matter, but so does attitude.

We're looking for someone who:

- Takes genuine pride in their work.

- Is curious and eager to keep learning.

- Enjoys responsibility and is willing to step up when needed.

- Notices the small details.

- Can work independently while still being a strong team player.

- Is comfortable receiving feedback and learning new ways of working.

- Wants to contribute ideas and help improve the business.

- Is genuinely enthusiastic about photography and the people who enjoy it.

Where This Role Can Lead

We're growing, and we want the people who join us to have the opportunity to grow too.

For the right person, this position can develop into a broader role with greater responsibility, ownership and career progression over time.

We're not simply looking to fill a position. We're hoping to find someone who can become an important part of what we're building.

How to Apply

We'd love to know a little more about you than what appears on your resume.

Please include:

1. Your resume.

2. A short cover letter explaining why this particular role interests you.

3. A brief example of a time you successfully managed competing priorities or improved a process.

4. Your answer to the photography question below:

Tell us about your experience with photography. What cameras do you shoot with? What draws you to film photography? Have you ever developed film or worked in a darkroom? If so, we'd love to hear about your experience and the process you used.

We genuinely read our applications, and your answer to the photography question is an important part of how we get to know you.

If you're passionate about photography, enjoy working with people and want the opportunity to build your skills within a growing creative business, we'd love to hear from you.
