We are seeking a Water Network Planning Engineer to join our Water Planning team where your contributions will directly impact our major infrastructure projects.

The Opportunity

As a Water Network Planning Engineer, you will helpshape the future of Hunter Water’s drinking water network by planning for safe, reliable and efficient services that support our customers, community and sustainable regional growth. This role undertakes medium- to long-term networkplanning, investigates performance and capacity needs, and develops practical strategies and investment recommendations that balance technical, regulatory, customer and business outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Plan and assess drinking water network capacity, reliability and performance to meet current and future customer needs.
- Develop upgrade strategies, investment options and business case inputs that support sustainable growth and regulatory compliance.
- Use water network models, data and risk-based analysis to identify system constraints, demand impacts and service improvement opportunities.
- Prepare clear technical reports, recommendations and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to improved planning processes, documentation, governance and decision-making frameworks across the water network planning function.

What you'll need to be successful:
Essential Criteria:

- Degree qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline, supported by relevant qualified experience.




- Experience in water infrastructure planning, asset planning, operations, design or a related technical field.
- Ability to interpret water network models, data and technical information to support sound planning decisions.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess network performance, risks, demand, growth and service outcomes.
- Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical reports and recommendations.
- Experience using InfoWorks WS Pro or other water network modelling platforms.
- Experience preparing business cases, investment options or infrastructure upgrade strategies.
- Understanding of drinking water quality regulation, operational risks or water management systems.
- Skills in GIS, Microsoft Excel, data analysis or other tools that support network planning and decision-making.
- Demonstrated strategic, innovative or lateral thinking, with the ability to identify practical improvement opportunities.
