Position Information
Wattawa Heights Public School is situated on Dharug Land, located in Bankstown. It is a small school (170) that provides a learning environment for children to take learning risks. The school includes 8 mainstream classes and a Support Unit for students with Autism (2 x AU and 1 x Au/IO classes). We value the importance of the culture of classroom, school and communities to foster stronger relationships, facilitate learning, celebrate diversity and deepen social understanding.
Wattawa Heights Public School is a proud multicultural community, with 94% of students with a language background of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D). Students engage in Arabic Community Language program across the school. The school has engaged in PAX Good Behaviour Game training to support the development of classroom conditions that enhance learner dispositions.
The Teacher Community Language (Arabic) position is a 4 day a week position that supports all classes in the school.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach Arabic Community Language (K–6), with demonstrated experience in planning and delivering high-quality, engaging and culturally responsive learning programs that develop students’ Arabic language knowledge, skills and understanding.
- Demonstrated capacity to plan and deliver explicit, differentiated teaching and learning experiences that cater for students with diverse learning needs, abilities and levels of Arabic language proficiency.
- Highly developed ability to establish a positive and inclusive learning workplace through effective classroom management, high expectations and evidence-informed strategies that promote student engagement, participation and positive behaviour.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as an active member of a school team and contribute to whole-school priorities, initiatives and events that enhance student engagement, wellbeing and connection to culture and community.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education,
you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
Special Notes
This is a permanent part-time position of 4 days per week, 0.8FTE (full time equivalent).
