This is a significant leadership opportunity for an accomplished environmental professional to take responsibility for a diverse portfolio encompassing environmental health, public health, waste management, sustainability and strategic project delivery.

Located in one of Western Australia's most distinctive regional communities, this role offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise with strategic leadership and deliver initiatives that will have a tangible and lasting impact.

Role opportunities

Reporting to the Executive Manager Community Planning & Sustainability, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Shire's environmental portfolio while ensuring compliance with relevant Western Australian public health and environmental legislation.

You will lead and coordinate a substantial program of strategic projects including the Brown Range Waste Facility Master Plan, development of the new Coral Bay Waste Facility, commercial waste and resource recovery opportunities, circular economy initiatives, and renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects across Shire facilities.

Your responsibilities will also include leading environmental health and public health services; developing waste management and sustainability strategies; preparing business cases, Council reports, grant submissions and project evaluations; managing budgets, contractors,



consultants and project risks; and providing specialist environmental advice across planning and development activities.

You will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and build productive relationships with Council, government agencies, industry, contractors and the community to deliver practical and sustainable outcomes.

The ideal candidate

McArthur is seeking a capable and contemporary leader who can move confidently between strategy, technical advice, project delivery and operational management.

You will bring demonstrated experience in leading people and multidisciplinary work programs, strong project management capability and sound knowledge of Western Australian public health, environmental and waste management legislation. High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional reports and provide sound technical advice, will be essential.

Relevant tertiary qualifications may include:

- Environmental Science or Environmental Management
- Public Health
- Natural Resource Management
- Environmental or Civil Engineering
- Sustainability or Climate Change Studies.

A current Western Australian Driver's Licence is required. Experience in regional or remote local government, formal project management qualifications, environmental health service delivery, sustainability or climate adaptation will be highly regarded.

The package

The Shire is offering a base salary of up to $150,000 per annum, plus superannuation and a substantial range of regional benefits.

Subject to eligibility and Shire policy, these may include housing, vehicle and district allowances, five weeks annual leave, relocation assistance, retention benefits, annual leave travel assistance and additional employee subsidies and advantages.
