Youth Minister
At Christ Church St Ives, youth ministryplays a key role in our current growth strategy and we are well known for excellent ministry in this area over generations. Our youth ministry is well resourced and the person in this role will work with three other paid staff whose roles include a youth focus, and alongsidethe Children’s Minister.
Christ Church St Ives is a large suburban Anglican Church that exists to proclaim Christ and build wholehearted disciples of Jesus. More than 300 young people are members of our Youth Ministry. Our Youth Minister will take leadership of and pastoral responsibility for these people.
1. Position Purpose
The role of Youth Minister is to prayerfully grow wholehearted disciples of Jesus, particularly among those in years 6-12. We want to see a generation confident in their faith in Christ and joyously serving him by living out and sharing the gospel. This role is primarily exercised by leading and equipping a large group of leaders (currently 36 including 4 team leaders) for our regular weekly youth ministries in partnership with parents.
- Establishing direction for and leading the youth ministry in consultation with the Senior Minister and the Senior Leadership Team.
- Recruiting, training, discipling and developing youth leaders
- Preaching to and teaching youth and leaders regularly
- Coordinating weekly youth programs (growth groups and services) and annual camps
- Along with the Kids and Youth team, equip households to disciple their children.
- Support and encourage our HS SRE teacher.
- Support and encourage and train our Youth MTS trainee.
- Facilitating clear transitions from youth into the broader church congregations
- Actively participating in a collaborative staff team for the building of wholehearted disciples across our church
The primary outcomes of the position over the next 5 years would be:
- Growing the godliness, maturity, and resilience of our youth
- Growing the number of youth engaged in church
- Establishing pipelines for youth leadership and leadership by youth in collaboration with the Ministry Director
More specific and detailed responsibilities and measurable outcomes will be worked out with the preferred candidate. Ongoing attention to personal Christian growth, ministry development, professional standards and WHS responsibilities are expected and encouraged in all members of our team.
3. Qualifications
Candidates for this position will have:
- Evidence of a life of discipleship in following Jesus and personal and professional commitment to see the gospel grow
- Significant experience as a youth minister who has leadteams
- Strong preaching ability coupled with excellent verbal and written communications skills
- An understanding of youth mental health and capacity to train and support leaders in this area
- A qualification from Youthworks College or Moore Theological College or another like College
- Ability to relate with a diverse range of people.
Ideally, candidates will have
- Used ChurchSuite in a ministry context
- Experience working within the purposes structure of church
