About CSIRO

As Australia's national science agency, CSIRO is solving the greatest challenges through creative science and technology. Many of our iconic innovations were once considered impossible until someone, just like you, joined us and took on the challenge.

Join CSIRO's Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) as a Glass Wash Officer and play an important behind-the-scenes role in supporting world-class scientific research.

Based within the Scientific Operations team, you'll help ensure laboratories have the clean, sterile and well-maintained equipment they need to operate safely and effectively. Your work will include cleaning and sterilising laboratory glassware, operating specialised washing and sterilisation equipment, managing stock levels, supporting waste and recycling processes, and assisting with the operation of the onsite micro-market.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking part-time work in a professional scientific environment. Whether you're looking to build experience in laboratory operations, return to the workforce, or transition into the science sector, you'll receive support while contributing to a team that underpins critical research and biosecurity activities.

Working as part of a cooperative team, you'll take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and service,

helping ensure researchers can focus on delivering science that benefits Australia and the world.

Your high-level duties will include:

- Cleaning and maintaining glassware items used in the laboratory or other microbiological containment environment.
- Operating industrial glassware washers, sterilisers and heat sterilisation ovens to ensure that all glassware used is free of contamination.
- Maintaining equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns and arranging for repairs.
- Assisting to maintain food standards required for the operation of the onsite micro market.
- Assisting in the stocking, ordering and maintenance of the onsite micro-market.

Location and office arrangements:

Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), Geelong, VIC

Salary:

AU$61k – AU$73k per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

Tenure & work schedule:

Specified term of 2 years; part time (50.82hrs/fortnight or 0.7 full-time equivalent)

Reference:

103916

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

- Certificate of high school education and/or relevant work experience in a service industry.
- Proficiency in the proper application of manual handling techniques and lifting equipment.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to access, interpret and apply company standard operational procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and carry out tasks under the direction of others.

While not essential, experience in a high-containment laboratory, food handling or food safety environment, or in a laboratory setting involving the safe handling of hazardous waste, chemicals and laboratory equipment would be advantageous.

While it is CSIRO policy that the successful candidate must meet all the essential criteria, there are many ways to demonstrate this. Don’t let the list discouraged you. If you are unsure about applying, please reach out to the contact person in the Position Description.
