Job Description
Accountant Marine and Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd

Location of the Employment: 9/41-43 Higginbotham Road, Gladesville, NSW-2111

Employment type: Full-time

Hours: 38 hours per week

Salary: $82,500 plus super
n
Key responsibilities
n
n
- Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, management accounts and supporting financial schedules.
n
- Examine operating costs, project expenditure, revenue and financial performance, and provide findings and recommendations to management.
n
- Prepare month-end and year-end accounting entries, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation, provisions and account reclassifications.
n
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and perform detailed balance sheet, bank, intercompany and control-account reconciliations.
n
- Investigate financial discrepancies, identify underlying causes and implement appropriate accounting adjustments and corrective measures.
n
- Assist with the preparation of budgets, cash-flow forecasts and financial projections, and analyse actual performance against approved budgets.
n
- Prepare project-costing reports and analyse the allocation of labour, plant, materials and overhead expenses across projects and cost centres.
n
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, including acquisitions, disposals, transfers, depreciation and capital expenditure.
n
- Prepare and review payroll journals, payroll reconciliations and the allocation of employment costs to relevant projects and accounts.
n
- Prepare and reconcile Business Activity Statements, GST accounts, VAT returns,
Fringe Benefits Tax calculations and related supporting schedules.
n
- Review accounting transactions to ensure appropriate tax treatment, account classification and compliance with applicable accounting standards and statutory requirements.
n
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, financial controls and reporting procedures to improve the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
n
- Support financial year-end reporting and coordinate the preparation of information required by external accountants, auditors and taxation advisers.
n
- Provide financial analysis and accounting advice to management to support operational planning and informed business decisions.
n
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable control accounts and oversee the accuracy of transaction processing performed within the finance function.

Qualifications and experience
n
n
- Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a closely related field.
n
- A minimum of one year of relevant skilled experience in accounting or a closely related field.
n
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations and month-end processes.
n
- Sound understanding of Australian GST, BAS, payroll accounting and taxation requirements.
n
- Experience with accounting or project-costing software, preferably Jobpac or a comparable system.
n
- Solid Microsoft Excel and financial-analysis skills.
n
- High level of accuracy, analytical ability and attention to detail.
n
- Effective organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
n
n
