About the Role
Macquarie University Health is seeking an Advanced Trainee in Gastroenterology to deliver clinical services to inpatients and outpatients across the specialty, based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde. This is a training-focused role within a unit where clinical care, teaching and research sit side by side, giving you exposure to a broad case mix and to the academic activity that shapes contemporary gastroenterology practice. You will work alongside gastroenterologists, nursing and allied health colleagues in a genuinely multidisciplinary team, with structured supervision and mentorship throughout your term. Many of our consultants also hold appointments at large tertiary teaching hospitals, bringing depth and breadth of expertise to your training. Alongside ward and clinic work, you will contribute to endoscopic procedures, infusion services, research projects and clinical trials, and have the opportunity to learn transabdominal ultrasound for inflammatory bowel disease. - Providing clinical management and timely treatment of inpatients and outpatients within your approved scope of practice,
including ward rounds, clinics, consultations, formal handover and accurate, timely electronic medical record documentation
- Assisting with endoscopic procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, chromoendoscopy, stricture dilatation, ERCP and balloon enteroscopy, and acting as a point of contact for infusion services
- Learning and applying transabdominal ultrasound for inflammatory bowel disease under supervision
- Participating in research projects and clinical trials in conjunction with your clinical supervisor, with the opportunity to present at conferences such as Australian Gastroenterology Week

About You
- Current registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, or the ability to obtain registration including meeting English language requirements
- Demonstrated experience in gastroenterology, including working effectively within busy inpatient and outpatient settings
- Demonstrated understanding of the patient's perspective and the ability to communicate key information clearly to patients, families and carers
- Demonstrated interest and aptitude in one or more of the following: supervision of students, delivery of education activities, or research
- A strong commitment to multidisciplinary, patient-centred care and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Enrolment in a higher degree and involvement in a research project is highly regarded
