About the Client
Our client is a large Australian Government organisation responsible for delivering secure and trusted digital services that support critical national capabilities. Operating within a complex and highly regulated environment, the organisation relies on robust identity, cryptographic, and security frameworks to protect information, systems, and users.
They are seeking an experienced PKI Subject Matter Expert to provide strategic policy support, governance expertise, and technical guidance across a mature Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) environment.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced PKI professional to support the ongoing development, governance, and evolution of a large-scale Public Key Infrastructure environment.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will provide policy advice and support across a range of PKI-related initiatives, ensuring ongoing compliance with industry standards, government frameworks, and evolving security requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing, maintaining, and updating PKI-related policies, procedures, Certificate Practice Statements (CPS), and Certificate Policies (CP).
- Ensuring PKI documentation remains aligned with applicable trust frameworks, standards, and certification requirements.
- Providing advice, guidance, and reporting to governance and policy boards.
- Engaging with stakeholders to obtain legal, financial, and operational endorsement of PKI policies and initiatives.
- Supporting projects requiring PKI expertise through consultations, workshops, meetings, and documentation reviews.
- Contributing to international PKI-related initiatives, forums, and working groups.
- Supporting the annual PKI audit process, including preparation activities, audit responses, remediation actions, and reporting.
- Assisting with policy development and compliance activities relating to smart card technologies and digital identity solutions.
- Supporting the ongoing evolution of PKI capabilities, including emerging cryptographic technologies and future security initiatives.
- Monitoring developments in PKI, cryptography, and security standards to help maintain compliance and best practice.
- Providing support and guidance as directed by senior PKI leadership.
The Successful Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
- PKI governance, compliance, and policy development.
- Smart card technologies and Card Management Systems.
- Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).
- Middleware software and infrastructure, including card readers, drivers, and applet middleware.
- Certificate Authorities and digital certificate management.
- Gatekeeper framework.
- WebTrust and ACP-185 standards.
- Certification Authority Browser Forum (CA/B Forum) requirements and trust programs.
- Cryptographic technologies and security frameworks.
- Development of policies, standards, and governance frameworks within complex environments.
- International policy development and collaboration, particularly within allied or multinational environments.
- Stakeholder engagement, governance reporting, and audit support.
- Emerging security technologies, including post-quantum cryptography and future PKI capability development.
