Position Information
Menai High School is a comprehensive and co-educational school located in the SutherlandShire with an enrolment of 1065 students in 2025. The student population is comprised of approximately 35% LBOTE, 13% EALD and 1.5% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Our feeder primary schools are Tharawal, Menai, Illawong, Alfords Point, Padstow and Padstow Heights.
We offer an extensive curriculum and diverse extra-curricular activities which are valued byour community. In addition to core curriculum subjects, our Stage 5 students engage in three 200 hour Electives. Our broad curriculum provides students with educational experiences in Agriculture, Oceans Alive, Automotive, STEM and metacognition through the Stage 4 Skilled Learning program. Our students proudly represent the school in a range ofdance and music ensembles, Agricultural shows and all representative sporting pathways.
Menai High School strives to provide quality teaching and learning opportunities for allstudents through equity, inclusivity and excellence. An Inclusive Education Faculty was established in 2025 and will be expanding in 2027 to include 2 autism support classes and 2 multi-categorical support classes.
Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach special education and experience teaching students with autism,
mental health and complex needs within a support class setting.
2. Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum, cater for cross stage learning and develop personalised learning plans that respond to the learning, social and emotional needs of students with complex disabilities.
3. Demonstrated successful classroom management with a versatile and open approach, creating a positive learning environment that promotes student wellbeing, engagement authentic relationships and success.
4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven capacity to work collaboratively in teams with students, families, staff, external agencies and the wider school community to promote a culture of inclusion.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
