Buckle Cafe & Distillery is seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. This is an exciting prospect to work in a vibrant venue offering premium café dining, contemporary Australian cuisine, evening service and private functions. The successful applicant will play a key role in delivering high-quality food while maintaining exceptional food safety and kitchen standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and cook a wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items in accordance with established recipes and presentation standards.
- Design and develop seasonal menus, daily specials and function menus using fresh, locally sourced ingredients where possible.
- Prepare and cook a range of modern Australian dishes, café favourites, grilled meats, seafood, burgers, pizzas, pasta, salads, desserts and shared plates.
- Monitor food quality, taste, consistency and presentation to ensure every dish meets the venue's high standards.
- Manage food preparation during busy service periods while maintaining efficiency and quality.
- Estimate food requirements, order stock and liaise with suppliers to ensure adequate inventory levels.
- Monitor stock rotation, minimise food wastage and maintain effective portion control.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation regulations at all times.
- Supervise, train and mentor kitchen staff, apprentices and kitchen hands to maintain a productive team environment.
- Coordinate kitchen operations to ensure timely preparation and service of meals.
- Inspect kitchen equipment and work areas to ensure cleanliness, safety and operational efficiency.
- Assist in developing new menu concepts and continuously improve menu offerings based on seasonal availability and customer preferences.
- Work collaboratively with management to achieve operational, quality and customer satisfaction objectives.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
- At least two years' relevant experience as a Chef, or three years' relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of modern Australian cuisine and café operations.
- Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills.
- Sound knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and public holidays.
- A positive attitude with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences.
