Waves Truck Repair Pty Ltd is a truck and heavy-vehicle repair workshop based in Wingfield, South Australia. We provide servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and mechanical repairs for trucks and other commercial heavy vehicles operating throughout the Adelaide metropolitan area.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our workshop team in a full-time, permanent position.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the Diesel Motor Mechanic will inspect, diagnose, service, repair and test diesel engines and the mechanical components of trucks and other heavy vehicles.

The successful applicant will work independently and as part of a small workshop team to maintain vehicle reliability, safety and performance and help keep our customers’ fleets operating efficiently.

KEY DUTIES

- Detecting and diagnosing faults in diesel engines, engine-management systems and related mechanical and electrical components.
- Using computerised diagnostic equipment, technical information and service manuals to identify mechanical faults.
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components and inspecting parts for wear or damage.
- Repairing or replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling engines and mechanical components.
- Inspecting, diagnosing and repairing transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems.
- Inspecting and repairing diesel fuel-injection, cooling, lubrication, exhaust and emission-control systems.
- Performing scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, engine tune-ups and safety inspections.
- Reassembling engines and components following repairs and testing and adjusting mechanical parts to ensure correct performance.
- Conducting vehicle inspections and road tests, where appropriately licensed,



to confirm the quality of repairs and safe vehicle operation.
- Completing service reports and maintaining accurate records of inspections, servicing, repairs and parts used.
- Advising the Workshop Manager and customers about vehicle condition, identified faults and recommended repairs.
- Maintaining tools and equipment and keeping the workshop clean, organised and safe.
- Complying with workplace health and safety procedures, manufacturer specifications and relevant automotive standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful applicant will have:

- A Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology, Automotive Diesel Fuel Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or another closely related automotive trade qualification.
- An equivalent overseas trade qualification or substantial relevant trade experience may also be considered.
- Demonstrated experience servicing, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines in trucks, buses or other heavy vehicles.
- Experience using computerised diagnostic equipment and interpreting service manuals and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension systems.
- A current driver’s licence.
- A heavy-vehicle driver’s licence is highly regarded but not essential.
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work safely, reliably and independently while contributing effectively to a small workshop team.
