Northern Health offers an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses to advance their careers through the 2027 Postgraduate Nursing Program in Emergency Nursing. This program provides a supportive environment for nurses to develop specialised skills in emergency and acute care, combining academic learning with hands‑on clinical experience. Participants will gain exposure to a wide range of emergency presentations and interventions, supported by expert educators and clinical mentors dedicated to fostering professional growth.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist,communityand home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals, and Kilmore District Hospital.

- In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, MillParkand Coburg.

Northern Health Emergency Department

Northern Health Emergency Department is a vibrant, rapid-paced workplace, within the rapidly growing northern suburbs. We see a vast range of presentations and acuity, which provides excellent exposure to support your learning. Our ED has 60 treatment cubicles including 5 resuscitation rooms and a designated paediatric pod.

A day in the life of an Emergency Postgraduate Nursing Student:

- Work alongside experienced Critical Care Registered Nurses and Medicalstaff
- Supported rotations through our 5Bed Resuscitation Bay, Triage, as well as cardiac monitored cubicles, dedicated paediatric pod and fast track area foroptimalclinicalexposure
- Experience a wide range of exposure in our dynamic and vibrant department, including emergency and resuscitation presentations from all age groups and backgrounds (from neonates to the elderly population)
- Exposure to a diverse range of clinical presentations including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, trauma,paediatricsandmaternity
- Learn new skills whilst well supported by the Education team, including adult and paediatric advanced life support, advanced airway procedures, mechanical ventilation, haemodynamic monitoring,triageand emergency mental healthcare
- Experience different teaching modalities including clinical bedside education, study days, lectures,tutorialsand multidisciplinarysimulation
- Partner with globally recognised universities to access a world-class education.
- Work in collaboration with Ambulance Victoria to deliver high quality, holistic care to ourcommunity

About the program

- Northern Health’s Postgraduate Nursing program in Emergency Nursing commences in early February 2027
- The program is conducted in partnership with Deakin University
- Contract requirement is 64 hours perfortnighttemporary for 12 months
- Students will be supported by experienced Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical SupportNursesand Emergency Departmentstaff
- This program is offered on afull‑fee‑paying basis; please refer to the respective university websites for details. Students should expect to pay university fees to undertake the program.
- Commonwealth Supported Places may be available at the university’s discretion.

To be successful in this role you will need:





- Minimum of two years as a Registered Nurse at commencement of program in 2027
- Completion of Emergency Supported Transition to Excellence in Practice (STEP) or equivalent or 12 months in Emergency nursing.
- Previouspaediatric nursing or paediatric emergency nursing experience highly desirable
- Commitment to attending all study days and completing all theoretical and clinical assessments over a 12-monthperiod
- Accepted enrolment by the Northern Healthuniversitypartner –
- Deakin University
- Commit to a minimum of 0.8 EFT contract
- Must be able to work a rotating roster, including day,eveningand night dutyshifts
- Agree to complete all required rotations associated with theprogram
