Established in 1889, Meercroft Care is an autonomous, not-for-profit organisation governed by a Board of Governance. Located in the beautiful Bluff precinct in Devonport overlooking Bass Strait, Meercroft provides excellence in permanent and respite aged care services. As a 140-bed facility employing approximately 240 staff, we are currently undertaking a significant redevelopment, due for completion in 2027, as we continue to grow and enhance our services.
About the Roles
Meercroft Care Inc. is seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join our Catering Department and contribute to the delivery of high-quality food services to our residents. We currently have the following opportunities available:
Catering Department
- Chef – Full time (76 hours per fortnight) - 12 Months Fixed Term Contract.
- Catering Assistant – Permanent Part-Time and Casual.
In these roles, you will contribute to providing high-quality, nutritious and enjoyable meals while maintaining a caring, respectful and person-centred approach towards residents, visitors and colleagues. You will work as part of a dedicated Catering team to ensure food services meet the individual dietary requirements, preferences and nutritional needs of our residents.
Key Responsibilities
Chef
- Prepare, cook and present high-quality, nutritious meals for residents.
- Ensure meals meet individual dietary requirements, preferences and nutritional needs.
- Prepare and manage texture-modified and special diets as required.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and infection prevention and control.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is operated safely and correctly.
- Monitor food quality, storage, stock rotation and minimise food wastage.
- Support menu planning and the preparation of nutritious and appealing meals.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment.
- Provide guidance and support to Catering Assistants when required.
- Work collaboratively with residents, colleagues and other members of the Meercroft Care team.
Catering Assistant
- Assist with food preparation and meal service as directed by the Chef.
- Support the delivery of meals while considering residents' individual dietary requirements and preferences.
- Assist with plating, serving meals and preparing refreshments.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene within kitchen and dining areas.
- Assist with dishwashing, cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment.
- Follow food safety, infection prevention and control procedures.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is operated safely and correctly.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with residents, families and colleagues.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment.
About You
Chef To be successful in the Chef position, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience working as a Chef within an aged care environment.
- Relevant qualifications in Commercial Cookery.
- Demonstrated experience preparing meals for older people with a range of dietary and nutritional requirements.
- Knowledge and experience with texture-modified and special diets.
- Strong knowledge of food safety,
hygiene and infection prevention and control requirements.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
- A genuine commitment to supporting the wellbeing and quality of life of older people.
Catering Assistant To be successful in the Catering Assistant position, you will demonstrate:
- Previous experience in catering, hospitality, food services or a similar role (preferred).
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A flexible and resident-focused approach.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and infection prevention and control.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A genuine interest in supporting the wellbeing of older people.
