Company Description Uralla Shire Council is the local government authority for the Uralla Shire on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire spans approximately 3,229 km² along the New England Highway, around 545 km north-west of Sydney. Council serves a diverse range of localities including Uralla, Bundarra, Kentucky, Rocky River, Kingstown, and many surrounding communities.

Role Description The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a full-time, in office position based in Uralla, NSW, responsible for strategic financial leadership across Uralla Shire Council. The role oversees budgeting, long-term financial planning, and cash flow management to ensure the Council’s financial sustainability. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising the preparation of financial statements and reports, monitoring financial performance against budgets, and providing clear analysis and advice to the General Manager, elected Council, and senior leadership.

The CFO manages finance team operations, ensures compliance with relevant legislation and accounting standards, and maintains robust internal controls and risk management frameworks. The position also contributes to corporate strategy, leads continuous improvement in financial systems and processes,



and supports major projects and infrastructure planning with financial insights.

Qualifications

- Strong finance and financial planning skills, including experience in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial strategy.
- Proficiency in preparing and interpreting financial statements and financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
- Well-developed analytical skills to assess financial performance, identify trends, and support evidence-based decision making.
- Extensive experience in public sector or corporate finance, preferably within local government or a similar regulatory environment.
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline; professional membership (e.g., CPA, CA, or equivalent) is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including managing finance teams and fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, and accountability.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, accounting standards, and financial governance requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- High level of digital literacy, including experience with financial management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
