Your Role
As a Communications Systems Operator in the Army, you will be responsible for operating cutting-edge technology, such as satellite terminals, radios and advanced security equipment, to provide vital military communications anywhere in the world. You’ll construct advanced field antennas, maintain network security or operate a specialised suite of software to ensure communications across networks. In this communications role like no other, you’ll work as part of a team in different environments including the back of an armoured vehicle, in barracks or out field.

Common Duties
- Plan, design and manage a variety of communications support networks
- Configure and deploy tactical radio and satellite systems such as antenna and communications security systems, computer networks and terminals
- Convey messages and provide guidance on communications systems to your fellow soldiers
- Conduct maintenance, identify and rectify faults of equipment systems
- General soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation
As part of your training for this Communications Systems Operator role, you’ll earn qualifications for the operation of certain vehicles.

Market-competitive salary + Generous Superannuation of 16.4% Starting salary while training: $60,517 per year
Salary after completing training: $86,453 per year
Your salary will continue to increase based on your rank and years of service.
Location
Once you have completed your training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. Most of these positions are in Melbourne, Darwin, Townsville, Brisbane and Sydney.
Eligibility For this role, you must:
- Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen, and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Maths
