Community Airstrip Advisor - Safe Landings Program

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) WA is committed to ensuring people in regional and remote communities can access critical aeromedical care when they need it most. As part of this commitment, we are delivering the Safe Landings Program, an innovative initiative focused on improving airstrip safety, community preparedness, and access to emergency healthcare across Western Australia (WA).

As the Community Airstrip Advisor, you will be the public face of the Safe Landings Program, working directly with communities, airstrip owners, operators, local governments and key stakeholders throughout regional WA.

This is a unique opportunity to combine your aviation knowledge, stakeholder engagement skills and passion for community outcomes to help create safer, more resilient regional airstrip networks.

This is a full time position offered on a 12-month contract.

About the Role

- Build and maintain strong relationships with airstrip owners, operators, local governments, contractors, and other key community stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for communities participating in the Safe Landings Program.
- Report airfield updates to the Head of Flying Operations.
- Coordinate and facilitate workshops, meetings, and engagement activities across regional and remote WA.
- Collect and utilise stakeholder feedback to support ongoing program improvement and community outcomes.
- Represent RFDS at community events, stakeholder meetings, and industry forums.
- Deliver engaging education and awareness initiatives that promote airstrip safety and operational readiness.
- Support the development of educational resources, communications, guides, and multimedia content.
- Collaborate with internal RFDS teams to achieve Safe Landings Program objectives and broader aviation safety outcomes.
- Contribute to program reporting, monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Proactively identify, report,



and assist in managing safety risks and hazards.
- Demonstrate and promote a strong safety culture through leadership, accountability, and safe work practices.

This role offers a versatile working arrangement that supports both operational requirements and work-life balance. While the position is primarily worked Monday to Friday, there may be occasions where weekend, after-hours, or travel are required to meet the needs of the role. In these circumstances, Time in Lieu (TIL) will be provided in accordance with organisational policies. Regular engagement with stakeholders across regional and remote communities is an important aspect of this position.

You are a confident communicator who enjoys working with people and building trusted relationships. You bring a practical, solutions-focused mindset along with a genuine commitment to supporting regional and remote communities.

Knowledge of the unique needs and challenges experienced by rural and remote communities is highly valued, along with an understanding of the RFDS's mission to deliver essential health care to regional and remote regions. This role is integral to maintaining safe and accessible community airstrips, helping ensure reliable access to health care and vital community connections.

We'll be looking for

- Strong aviation and/or regional airstrip knowledge within WA.
- Experience applying safety and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, practical guidance.




- Confidence presenting to groups and facilitating community discussions.
- High levels of organisation, initiative and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a broader team.
