Control Systems Solutions Architect - National Role
Our client is a leading Australian industrial automation and control systems integrator with a national presence across mining, water, energy, rail, critical infrastructure and manufacturing.
We're looking for an experienced Control Systems Solutions Architect to work with customers and internal teams at the earliest stages of an opportunity, understanding the requirement, developing the control system architecture and turning that solution into something that can be accurately estimated, proposed and ultimately delivered.
This isn't a traditional estimator, bid manager or BDM role. This is a senior front end engineering role for someone who enjoys working out what the solution should be before the project is won.
You’ll be the technical person helping answer the question - What does the customer actually need, how should we solve it, what technology should we use and what will it take to deliver?
The role
You’ll work across a broad range of PLC, SCADA, DCS, OT networking and industrial automation opportunities and be responsible for activities including:
- Engaging with customers to understand technical and operational requirements
- Developing control system and OT solution architectures
- Selecting appropriate platforms, hardware and system components
- Developing BOMs and defining engineering scope
- Estimating engineering hours and technical delivery requirements
- Identifying assumptions, exclusions, risks and RFIs
- Supporting technical proposals and tender responses
- Balancing the technically optimal solution with commercial competitiveness
- Presenting and defending the proposed solution with customers
- Providing a clear technical handover into the engineering and delivery teams
Projects range from brownfield upgrades and migrations through to significant greenfield automation programs. What we’re looking for The right person for this role could come from a range of backgrounds.
You may currently be a:
- Principal/Lead Control Systems Engineer
- Solutions Architect
- Senior Automation Engineer
- Technical Consultant
- Vendor Solutions/Applications Engineer
- Technical Presales Engineer
- Control Systems Project Manager with strong technical capability
What matters is that you understand control systems deeply enough to take an incomplete customer requirement and develop the solution from first principles. Ideally you’ll bring robust experience across some combination of PLC/SCADA/DCS/industrial networks/OT architecture, and you'll have experience with all the usual suspects such as
Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, ABB, Honeywell, Emerson or Yokogawa across mining, water, energy, infrastructure, process industries or manufacturing would all be relevant.
You don’t need to be the person commissioning every PLC at 2am anymore, but you do need enough technical depth to design a credible solution and enough commercial awareness to make sure it can actually be won and delivered.
Why consider it?
This is a genuinely rare opportunity to move away from heavily delivery or commissioning focused engineering while remaining heavily involved technically.
You’ll operate at the point where engineering, customers and commercial strategy intersect, with significant influence over how major automation projects are shaped before they reach delivery.
If your experience covers client requirement → architecture → BOM → engineering estimate → proposal → delivery handover, I’d be very keen to talk to you.
Confidential enquiries welcome.
