Creative Strategist - Paid Performance Marketing (DTC & Ecommerce), Freelance
No Boring Content · Remote, Australia-based · Freelance The short version
- We make ad creative for DTC brands, mostly US health, wellness and ecommerce. Around 50 to 100 assets a month per client: creator-led video, B-roll edits, statics and hybrids.
- We also built our own creative intelligence platform, HypeCrowd. It reads every ad frame by frame and maps it against real Meta performance: which hooks hold attention, which script structures convert, what a question hook costs versus a statement hook on a given account.
- Someone has to sit with the performance data every week and decide what happens next. Which concept has legs and deserves five more variations. Which winner is fatiguing and needs a replacement queued now. Which angle has been tested three times and should be retired. Then turn those calls into briefs and hand them to our editors.
What you'd actually do
- Live in the data. Every account has a running read on what is performing: hook types, story arcs, concept and variation combinations, cost per result by pattern. You will be in it every week, across every client.
- Decide what gets built. This is the job. Not "make more creative," but specifically: this concept is working, extend it into four new hooks. This one is fatiguing, replace it. This angle has been tested and is dead. That is the call you are being hired to make.
- Write the iteration briefs. Clear enough that an editor can execute without coming back to you. What to cut, what to change, which footage to use,
what the on-screen messaging needs to do and why.
- Hand off to production. Our editors take it from there. You set the direction and the priority, they scale it.
- Watch what happens. You will see the result of every call you made, in the account, the following week. Then adjust.
- You are not writing new production briefs or running creator concepting. We have a senior creative strategist who owns that. You own everything that happens after the first batch is live.
What we're looking for
- You do not need to be a designer or an editor. You need judgment about creative, and a genuine appetite for data.
- Be honest with yourself on that second part. A lot of creative people tolerate data. This role is for someone who actually enjoys digging through an account and finding the pattern nobody had noticed.
- One to three years in performance marketing, media buying, growth or creative strategy
- Comfortable in ad performance data. "CPA by hook type" should mean something to you without explanation
- Able to look at a set of ads and say why one worked, then say what to build next because of it
- Clear writer. Your briefs have to be executable by someone who was not in the conversation
- Opinionated,
and able to back it with a number
- Australia-based, working closely with our strategist and editors day to day
- Meta Ads Manager experience, UGC or creator-led content, DTC or ecommerce background.
- A media buyer who wants to move into creative is a strong fit here. Creative judgment is learnable in our setup.
A real appetite for data is not.
Why this is a good job
- You find out if you were right. Most creative roles never learn whether the work performed. Here you will see exactly which second of a video lost the viewer, and whether your next call fixed it.
- Nothing sits between you and the work. We are a team of six. What you decide gets made that week.
- The tooling is ahead of the market. Frame-by-frame analysis mapped to live account performance is not something most agencies have.
- Real brands with real spend. Not startups testing an idea.
The process
1. Send your CV and a short note. Tell us about a time you looked at performance data and changed what you were making because of it. What did you see, what did you do, what happened.
2. A short call.
3. A paid trial task, about two hours.
We give you a real performance read on a live account plus the creative that produced it. You tell us the three things you would build next and why, and what you would stop making. We care much more about this than your CV.
Must be flexible with time and availability, AUS business hours, hours may vary depending on current demand. Possible future opportunity for full time. Must be based in Australia.
