Background
Sutherland Shire Council is located about 26 kilometres south from the Sydney CBD, with a population of 230,900. The Shire has diverse environment including urban areas, national parks, scenic coasts, and extensive waterways. Sutherland Shire is an appealing place to live, work and explore, with population projections set to rise in the coming years. This growth has encouraged development for residential, commercial and recreation uses to respond to the changing needs of the community.
High quality development is essential as part of the Shires growth. The Design Review Panel (DRP), provides independent expert design advise across architecture, landscape, heritage and environmental sustainability for significant types of development. This advice assists Sutherland Shire Council in its delivery of high-quality built environments that reflects current planning controls.
An chance is provided for suitably qualified professionals to join the Panel.
Selection Criteria
- Applicants must have tertiary degree level qualifications in a relevant field and extensive experience in design development and in the NSW planning process. This includes demonstrated understanding of high quality design and the ability to provide constructive advice to achieve improved outcomes.
- Extensive experience and qualifications in one or more of the following areas: Urban Design, Architecture, Heritage and Landscape Architecture.
- Experience in providing expert advice with regards to the architectural merit, landscape quality and sustainability outcomes.
- Provide well-considered advice and recommendations based on relevant planning controls.
- Verbal and written communication skills to ensure applicants understand the advice provided.
- Understand the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements appropriate to Council.
Appointment of Committee members Council will appoint members following an application and interview process. Terms of appointment will be in accordance with the Terms of Reference found here .
