Sydney

Alliance Geotechnical is a leading geotechnical and environmental consultancy, delivering practical solutions across infrastructure, development and construction projects. Established in 2003, Alliance has built a solid reputation for technical expertise, exceptional service, and a commitment to helping clients navigate complex ground and environmental challenges.

Our people are at the heart of our success. We foster a collaborative and supportive environment where initiative is valued, continuous improvement is encouraged, and careers can grow alongside the business. Guided by our values and commitment to safety, quality and innovation, we're proud to deliver practical solutions through our exceptional people.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Construction Phase Services team in Sydney. This is a primarily site-based junior role, with 4-5 days a week on site, giving you hands-on exposure to projects as they move from design into construction.

You'll work alongside experienced Engineers, Geologists, Testing Technicians and Environmental Specialists, gaining real construction-phase experience. It's a great opportunity to build your technical skills on live sites and develop into a well-rounded Geotechnical Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake construction phase geotechnical inspections across civil, infrastructure and building projects that include but not limited to bearing capacity assessments, excavation stability inspections, pile and ground anchor inspections, proof roll inspections, foundation and earthworks assessments, rock face mapping, etc.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors and project teams to prepare inspection reports, technical correspondence and construction-phase recommendations to resolve geotechnical issues on site
- Manage multiple inspections, projects and client requirements with support from senior engineers

- Undertake field testing with specialised equipment including DCP testing, pile integrity testing, plate load testing, shear vane testing, etc, where required.
- Identify unexpected ground conditions and assist with developing practical remediation solutions
- Progressively develop technical, construction and client-management skills with support from experienced geotechnical engineers
- Plan and coordinate fieldwork, including subcontractor engagement and preparation of documentation to support safe, efficient site operations.
- Schedule laboratory testing programs and assist with the collation and interpretation of results, with guidance and review from senior staff.
- Assist with geotechnical analysis and provide practical input on foundations, retaining structures, slopes, pavements and earthworks.
- Communicate clearly with internal teams and clients on site, seeking support and feedback from senior team members as needed.
- You'll experience engineering projects from concept through to construction, not just desktop work, as we support your development into a well-rounded geotechnical engineer or engineering geologist.

About You

- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
- 1-2 years' experience in conducting geotechnical field investigations and associated report writing, as a geotechnical engineer or engineering geologist
- Current driver's licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork across metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW as required

- Familiarity with Australian Standards and geotechnical investigation practices, with a strong safety-first mindset
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards
- Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to take ownership
- Tech-savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office and business systems
- Current White Card
