Position: Airconditioning and Refrigeration Technician

Our client is seeking a skilled Airconditioning and Refrigeration Technician to join their team in Emerald, Queensland.

As a Refrigeration & Air‑Conditioning Mechanic you will be responsible for the safe installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair of domestic, commercial, and industrial refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems. The role supports high‑quality work delivery across maintenance, breakdowns and installation projects, while maintaining strong customer service and workmanship standards.

Additionally, a key component of this role is supporting and guiding Refrigeration Apprentices as part of standard trade duties. This includes on‑the‑job training, skills coaching and protected work oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation & Commissioning

·Install and commission a range of refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including split systems, ducted systems, packaged units and cold/freezer rooms.

·Install associated components such as piping, insulation, controls, ducting, brackets and supports.

·Cut, bend and thread piping, and braze/solder joints as required for installation.

·Commission systems, test performance, and complete required documentation.

Service, Repairs & Preventative Maintenance

·Perform routine servicing, fault finding and preventative maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems.

·Diagnose and repair refrigeration, mechanical and control system faults.

·Carry out refrigerant recovery, charging, leak testing and compliance activities in line with ARC requirements.





·Respond to breakdowns efficiently and safely.

Technical & Compliance

·Read and interpret plans, drawings and technical documentation.

·Perform electrical disconnection/reconnection tasks within licence scope.

·Conduct system testing including continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, gas leak detection and performance checks.

·Maintain compliance with Australian Standards, company policies and regulatory requirements.

Apprentice Supervision & Support

·Provide day‑to‑day supervision, on‑the‑job training and skills coaching to apprentices.

·Ensure apprentices follow safe work practices and develop sound technical foundations.

·Support apprenticeship progress through practical learning and constructive feedback.

Customer Service & Teamwork

·Represent the company professionally at all times and maintain strong customer relationships.

·Communicate clearly and courteously with clients and stakeholders.

·Support, mentor and assist apprentices in developing trade skills.

·Work collaboratively with other trades and team members.

Documentation

·Complete job cards, timesheets, service reports, refrigerant records and other required paperwork accurately and on time.





·Document causes of malfunction and actions taken in service reports.

·Maintain stock levels, report material usage and support procurement when required.

·Use job management systems to record work details and close out tasks.

Tools, Equipment & Safety

·Maintain tools, equipment, company vehicles and PPE to required standards.

·Follow all WHS procedures and report hazards, incidents or near misses.

·Participate in toolbox meetings, safety discussions and training.

Other Duties

·Participate in rostered after‑hours call‑outs.

·Attend training and development as required.

·Perform additional duties consistent with the position and direction from management.

Requirements:

Essential

·Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Certificate (AQF Cert III or equivalent).

·Current ARCtick Refrigerant Handling Licence or ability to obtain ASAP after commencement.

·Current, unrestricted Driver’s Licence.

·At least three (3) years relevant HVAC/R experience (installation, service and fault-finding).

·Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and high‑quality workmanship.

·Ability to work independently and interact professionally with customers.

·Physical capacity to perform manual/repetitive tasks, including work at heights, in confined spaces and hot environments.

Desirable

·Experience across domestic, commercial and/or industrial HVAC/R environments.

·Experience mentoring apprentices.

·Experience in cold room installation or commercial HVAC systems.

·EWP or other high‑risk licences.

·Ability to interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
