About the role
Rangelands NRM is an independent natural resource management organisation delivering environmental and agricultural programs across the northern 80 percent of Western Australia. We are looking for an experienced Project Manager / Project Lead to take end-to-end accountability for a complex, multi-project portfolio across the WA rangelands.
This is a senior delivery role leading two to four concurrent projects, with responsibility for strategic delivery, budgets, contracts, staff supervision, reporting, stakeholder engagement and major grant and business development. It suits an experienced project leader who is confident managing multi-million-dollar budgets and remote delivery, and who builds trusted partnerships with Traditional Custodians, pastoralists, clients and government.
Key responsibilities
Strategic delivery
- Lead planning, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and close-out of a multi-project portfolio on time, on budget and to standard.
- Set portfolio priorities, resourcing and critical paths, and oversee internal and client reporting.Budget, contract and risk
- Manage high-value budgets, head contracts and sub-contracts.
- Identify and mitigate strategic, financial, operational, cultural and safety risks, and ensure compliance.
Business development
- Lead major grant proposals, tenders and commercial offers aligned with the Strategic Plan.
- Build relationships with funders, government, industry, philanthropy, Aboriginal organisations and research partners.
Team leadership
- Foster a protected, inclusive, high-performing culture and lead WHS duty of care, including remote and field work.
- Supervise, coach and mentor project staff, and lead recruitment, induction and performance of direct reports.
Aboriginal engagement and cultural safety
- Build respectful,
long-term partnerships with Traditional Custodians, Aboriginal corporations and community groups.
- Ensure projects follow cultural protocols, including free, prior and informed consent, and champion cultural safety.
Innovation and thought leadership
- Champion innovation in NRM delivery across climate adaptation, carbon, biodiversity and cultural land management.
- Provide sector thought leadership and contribute to organisational strategy and reputation.
What we are looking for
Essential
- Demonstrated senior project management experience leading complex, multi-project portfolios (typically 7+ years).
- Track record managing multi-million-dollar budgets, contracts and client relationships.
- Experience supervising, mentoring and developing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of the WA rangelands context and NRM threats and opportunities.
- Exceptional written, verbal and digital communication, including at senior stakeholder level.
- Proven success securing major grants, tenders and commercial contracts.
- High cultural competence working with Traditional Custodians, Aboriginal corporations and community groups.
- Current C Class WA Driver's Licence, and commitment to WHS, cultural safety and the Code of Conduct.
Desirable
- Degree in NRM, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Project Management or a related discipline, and formal PM accreditation (for example PMP, PRINCE2, AIPM).
- Established networks across NRM, government, philanthropy, industry and Aboriginal organisations.
- Experience living or working in the rangelands or similar remote regions.
- Experience in carbon, biodiversity, climate adaptation or emerging environmental markets.
Core systems
- Microsoft 365 and standard project and reporting tools (including MERIT-style grant reporting). Full training is provided on our internal systems.
