Outward Bound Australia is accepting ongoing applications for Fixed-Term Group Leader positions as part of our bi-annual intake processes.
Our Group Leaders are responsible for leading and facilitating safe, engaging and high-quality outdoor education programs for a diverse range of participants. Programs vary in length, location, activity type and client group, providing Group Leaders with the chance to work across a broad range of outdoor education experiences.
Outward Bound Australia delivers journey-based outdoor education programs in the ACT, Victoria, WA and NSW. Outward Bound also delivers centre-based programs out of its National Base, Tharwa Campus, in the ACT.
About the Role
Fixed-Term Group Leaders can join the Outward Bound team for up to a year, with the opportunity to extend at the end of the contract period and contribute to the delivery of a range of outdoor education programs across the season.
As a Group Leader, you will be responsible for:
- Leading and facilitating outdoor education programs.
- Creating safe, engaging and supportive learning environments for participants.
- Facilitating activities and experiences that support participant outcomes.
- Leading multi-day expedition programs across a range of environments.
- Delivering technical outdoor activities appropriate to your qualifications and experience.
- Managing participant and program risks in accordance with OBA procedures.
- Working collaboratively with other Group Leaders and support staff to deliver high-quality programs.
Our Group Leader positions provide the opportunity to become an active member of the OBA team, work consistently across a range of programs and locations, and continue to develop your skills and experience as an outdoor professional.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for Group Leaders who are passionate about outdoor education, enjoy working with people and are committed to delivering safe, engaging and high-quality experiences.
Required:
- Cert IV in Outdoor Leadership or equivalent.
- Current Wilderness First Aid and CPR.
- Current WWCC or WWVP.
- Unrestricted driving licence.
- Demonstrated experience working with client groups to deliver technical outdoor activities.
- Demonstrated experience working with client groups to deliver facilitated activities and achieve participant outcomes through outdoor experiences.
- Experience leading and facilitating multi-day expedition programs.
- Current Bronze Medallion or Swift Water Rescue.
The following outdoor activity skills and experience are preferred:
- Bushwalking
- Abseiling
- Top-rope climbing
- High ropes elements
- Canoeing
- Rafting
