About the role:
We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Manager – Group Functions Finance Business Partner to join our team in Melbourne.
In this highly visible role, you’ll partner with senior leaders across IT, Technology & Innovation, Human Resources, Legal and other corporate functions, providing the financial insight, challenge and strategic support they need to make informed decisions and deliver against their priorities.
You’ll play an important role in shaping how resources are allocated across our Group Functions, helping leaders understand performance, evaluate trade-offs and investment opportunities, and identify ways to improve cost effectiveness. From enterprise planning and forecasting to business cases and strategic investments, you’ll have the opportunity to influence decisions across a complex, global organisation.

What you will be doing:
Finance Business Partnering
- Act as a trusted finance partner to senior leaders across Group Functions.
- Provide commercial insight, constructive challenge and decision support to help leaders achieve strategic and operational objectives.
- Support leadership teams in assessing priorities, trade-offs, risks and investment opportunities.
- Build robust stakeholder relationships and position Finance as a valued strategic partner.
- Support strong financial stewardship and compliance with Orica finance standards.
- Understanding of the technology portfolio, operating model and cost base, to enable effective financial advice and constructive challenge on complex IT decisions.
- Translate technology investment, commercial and accounting considerations into clear advice for IT and Finance leaders.
Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting and long-term planning across Group Functions.
- Consolidate and challenge cost forecasts, ensuring assumptions are robust and accountabilities are explicit.
- Provide visibility of risks and opportunities and recommend actions to support delivery of financial targets.
- Help align functional plans with broader enterprise priorities.
- Provide clear oversight of technology run costs, project expenditure and investment and multi-year contractual commitments.
- Support accurate forecasting of cloud consumption, software licensing, managed services, workforce and transformation costs.
Performance Reporting & Analysis
- Deliver timely and insightful reporting for functional executives and finance leadership.
- Analyse expenditure trends, cost drivers, workforce costs, technology spending and project performance.
- Develop meaningful KPIs, dashboards and performance measures to support better decision-making.
- Identify emerging trends and translate financial information into practical recommendations.
- Ensure costs are appropriately understood, classified, allocated and explained across Group Functions and the broader organisation.
Strategic Investments & Business Cases
- Partner with leaders to develop and review business cases for key initiatives and investments.
- Undertake financial modelling, scenario analysis, cost-benefit analysis and investment appraisal.
- Provide independent financial challenge around assumptions, benefits, risks and expected outcomes.
- Provide financial leadership on major technology investments, including appropriate accounting treatment, total cost of ownership, cash flow, benefits, commercial commitments and delivery risk.
- Partner with IT, Procurement and other relevant teams on complex technology investment decisions.
Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead and direct activities delivered by the GBS financial services team supporting Group Functions Finance.
- Coach and develop finance team members, building capability and broader business understanding.
What you will bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting,
Business or a related discipline.
- 10+ years’ relevant experience, ideally within a large, complex or global organisation.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with large or complex IT or digital function, with strong knowledge of technology cost drivers, project and investment models.
- Strong understanding of accounting considerations associated with technology expenditure, including capitalisation, cloud and SaaS arrangements, software implementation, licensing and managed services.
- Experience supporting major technology programs and evaluating business cases, total cost of ownership, financial risk and benefits realisation.
- Ability to explain complex technology and accounting matters in transparent commercial language to senior stakeholders.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to turn financial information into meaningful business insight.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders, including those outside of your direct reporting line.
- Strong decision-making, critical thinking and prioritisation skills.
- Confidence working across multiple stakeholders and competing business priorities.
- SAP experience is preferred but not essential, with Power BI knowledge also highly regarded.
- A collaborative, resilient and adaptable leadership style, with the confidence to challenge constructively while remaining open to feedback.
