Project / Construction Manager – Civil & Infrastructure
Location: Central Queensland – Bowen Basin
Roster: 5/2 FIFO or 10/4 Brisbane / Townsville based
Travel: DIDO / flights available from Mackay
Engagement: Initial 3–4 month minimum contract, with potential for extension
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Project / Construction Manager to support a major resources operation in Central Queensland.
The role sits within a large-scale, long-life metallurgical coal operation and is focused on the delivery of civil, concrete, earthworks and associated infrastructure projects across the operation.
The successful candidate will be a practical construction qualified capable of taking projects from initial concept and pricing through to execution and completion.
This is a hands-on position requiring someone who is comfortable getting out into the field, inspecting works, understanding construction requirements, developing budgets and schedules, and working closely with contractors to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
The Role
The position will be responsible for managing a range of construction and civil projects, including:
- High-bay concrete slab construction and execution
- Concrete footings and slab construction
- Concrete pads and associated civil works
- Bulk earthworks associated with concrete pad construction
- Roadworks and road construction
- Small tailings dam works and associated pricing
- General civil and infrastructure projects across the operation
- Project estimating, budgeting and scheduling
- Contractor and subcontractor coordination
- Site inspections and construction verification
- Project planning from concept through to market and execution
- Full project lifecycle management
The role will require a strong understanding of practical construction methodologies and the ability to translate project requirements into accurate pricing, workable schedules and effective site execution.
Key Responsibilities Project Development & Planning
- Develop project budgets, estimates and construction schedules.
- Review project concepts and develop practical construction methodologies.
- Take projects from concept through to market, procurement and execution.
- Prepare scopes of work and support contractor procurement.
- Assess project requirements, resources, timelines and costs.
- Identify construction risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Monitor project performance against budget, schedule and scope.
Construction Delivery
- Manage the execution of civil and concrete construction projects.
- Oversee high-bay slab, concrete footing, slab and concrete pad works.
- Coordinate bulk earthworks and associated civil preparation.
- Manage roadworks and associated infrastructure where required.
- Coordinate contractors and subcontractors throughout project delivery.
- Ensure construction activities are completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications and project requirements.
- Provide practical construction direction and problem-solving on site.
Site Inspection & Quality
- Conduct regular site inspections and assess construction progress.
- Identify issues, defects, variations and potential construction risks.
- Verify works are being delivered in accordance with project requirements.
- Liaise with contractors regarding construction methodology, quality and progress.
- Provide clear reporting on project status, costs, schedule and construction performance.
Project Environment
The role will operate within a major Bowen Basin mining environment incorporating significant mining and supporting infrastructure.
The broader operation includes large-scale open-cut metallurgical coal mining infrastructure, with associated roads, water infrastructure, power infrastructure, rail infrastructure and processing facilities.
The operation is part of a long-term development strategy, with the wider complex supporting ongoing growth and expansion. The successful candidate will therefore be working in an environment where construction, infrastructure development, operational requirements and future projects intersect.
About You
We are looking for a hands-on construction professional rather than someone who is purely office-based.
You will ideally have experience across resources, mining, heavy civil, infrastructure or major construction projects and be confident managing projects from initial concept and pricing through to physical delivery.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong civil construction experience.
- Proven experience delivering concrete and earthworks projects.
- Experience with concrete slabs, footings and pads.
- Strong project estimating and pricing capability.
- Experience developing project budgets and construction schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to manage the full project lifecycle.
- Strong contractor and subcontractor management skills.
- Ability to conduct site inspections and identify construction requirements.
- Strong practical understanding of construction methodology.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of projects.
- Robust safety and quality focus.
- Resources, mining or heavy industrial experience highly desirable.

What Will Make You Successful
The ideal person will be someone who can walk onto a site and quickly understand what needs to be done, how it should be constructed, what it should cost and how it should be scheduled.
You will be comfortable moving between project planning, estimating and commercial discussions and the physical construction environment on site.
A strong practical construction background will be highly valued, with the ability to inspect, price, plan and deliver projects being central to the position.

The position provides flexibility around working arrangements:
5/2 FIFO
Suitable for candidates seeking a FIFO arrangement.
10/4 Brisbane or Townsville
Suitable for candidates based in Brisbane or Townsville who prefer a 10/4 arrangement.
Mackay
DIDO and flight arrangements can be considered for suitable candidates based in Mackay.
Contract
The initial engagement is for a minimum of 3–4 months, with the potential for extension depending on project requirements and performance.
