About the Role
McIlwain is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor who is ready to contribute to a purpose-driven team at one of our projects on the Sunshine Coast. You will work closely with a small onsite Safety Team, ensuring compliance with WH&S; regulations as well as influence & drive a positive safety culture for the project.
Due to the location of the project, McIlwain offers housing for those that would prefer to stay locally during the week as the works are run from Monday to Friday.
Duties:
- Monitor compliance with the safety systems and procedures within the workplace and provide operational support to the project management team
- Facilitate and deliver site inductions
- Attend all site pre-starts and communicate weekly toolbox to workforce and any incident findings or corrective actions
- Reporting, investigating, and implementing corrective and/or preventive actions resulting from identification of hazards, near miss incidents and work-related illness/injury
- Provide ongoing health and safety advice to Supervisors, Contractors, and site workers to eliminate or minimize hazards.
- Review and approve all SWMS, risk assessments and VOCs
- Assist in the preparation and development of Project and Safety reports
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience OR 5 years industry-related experience/experience in a similar role
- Previous experience on a large construction project
- Understanding/working knowledge of HSE practices, standards and codes
- Skilled in basic Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience using HSE management software
Qualifications:
- Degree or higher in OHS (strongly preferred, not essential — Diploma of Work Health and Safety is the minimum acceptable qualification)
- Current Drivers Licence
- Diploma of Work Health and Safety
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable)
- Lead ICAM Investigator (desirable)
- Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (white card)
