Senior CreativeBrand × Product × Apparel × Technology × Systems

Sydney | Full-time | Competitive salary + super

We’re looking for a Senior Creative to join Nardo.

We’ve had a bit of trouble working out exactly what to call this role.

Senior Designer. Creative Lead. Apparel Designer. Brand Designer. Maybe even Product Designer.

None of them quite capture what we’re actually looking for.

Partly because we’re not simply looking for someone who can take a brief and make something look good. But also because we’re building a business where the traditional role of a designer is beginning to change.

Over the past two years, we’ve been building technology that can automate more and more of the traditional apparel design process. Our own intelligent design engine, Leo, can take the identity of a sporting club and begin building entire apparel collections around it.

As we’ve watched that capability develop, it’s made us think a lot about what we actually want from the creative people sitting alongside it.

The answer isn’t less creativity - it’s considerably more.

We’re looking for someone with great taste, strong design fundamentals and a genuine curiosity about the world around them. Someone who can take the beginning of an idea, pull it apart, find the interesting part and turn it into something considered, original and unmistakably Nardo.

A designer, obviously.

But also a creative thinker, an ideas person and an all rounder. Someone who wants a much bigger canvas to work on.

About NardoNardo sits somewhere between a sports apparel company, a creative business and a technology platform.

We’re building an entirely new way for sporting clubs to design, procure and manage their apparel programs, combining great product and design with proprietary technology we’ve built specifically for grassroots and semi professional sport.

A big part of that is removing the repetitive work that has traditionally consumed huge amounts of time inside apparel businesses. We’re building systems that can increasingly handle briefing, iterations, catalogues, tech packs, quoting, ordering and production workflows.

Not because we want creativity to disappear from the process.... Because we want to create more room for it.

The bigger ambition for Nardo has always gone beyond simply making sportswear. We’re interested in identity. How clubs represent themselves. How players and supporters connect with them. How apparel, merchandise, content, storytelling and culture can work together to make a sporting organisation feel like something people genuinely want to belong to.

Over the past two years, we’ve been quietly building the foundations.

We’ve worked with some of Australia’s most recognised football clubs, built a growing network of clubs and partners internationally, raised capital from some incredible investors and started establishing Nardo across Australia, the US, Canada, the UK and Middle East.

Now we’re entering a different stage.

Our technology is coming to market. Nardo Studio, the first iteration of our platform, is rolling out to clubs. Leo is becoming increasingly capable. Our own brand is evolving and we’re developing new products, programs and partnerships.

We want another really good creative mind in the building helping us shape what all of that becomes.

That’s where you come in.

The roleAt its core,

you’ll help shape the creative world of Nardo and the clubs we work with.

That will obviously include apparel. You’ll concept collections, explore identities, develop graphics, work with colour and typography and help turn club stories into products people actually want to wear.

But we’re deliberately not hiring someone to spend their entire week executing apparel designs one by one.

We’re building technology to do more of that.

Your role will increasingly sit further upstream. Developing the idea. Setting the direction. Building the creative systems Leo can work within. Creating references. Understanding why something works and identifying when it doesn’t.

You’ll still design. A lot.

But we’re interested in what happens when a really positive creative has technology taking more of the repetitive execution off their plate.

Because suddenly the canvas becomes considerably bigger.

One week you might be developing an entire identity and apparel direction for a football club. The next you could be working on a Nardo campaign, creating an editorial piece, developing a new garment or product, thinking about an event or activation, or working alongside our product team on Nardo Studio.

Sometimes you’ll have a clear brief. Other times it might begin as a conversation, an image, a reference or a half baked idea.

We need someone who’s comfortable with both.

Someone who doesn’t just ask, “What do you want me to design?”

But also, “What are we actually trying to create here?”

Who we’re looking forWe’re not necessarily looking for one particular background or someone who’s followed the perfect path to get here. We’re looking for a certain type of person.

You need to be a very good designer. That’s a given. But we’re looking for someone whose brain extends well beyond design. Someone who can think creatively and commercially, and understands that the best answer often lives somewhere in the intersection of the two.

We want a genuine creative. Someone infinitely curious, who collects references, asks questions, pulls ideas from unexpected places and is excited by brands and the stories behind them. Someone who understands how identity, narrative, design and product can work together to create something people actually want to belong to.

At the same time, we don’t want a creative purist.

We want someone with a strong point of view, but very little ego attached to it. Someone who understands the customer, the audience and the commercial objective, and that the right answer isn’t always the thing you’d personally choose.

We’d love you to understand apparel and physical product too. Fabric, construction, silhouettes, decoration, manufacturing. You don’t need to be a technical garment designer, but you should care about how things actually get made.

Then there’s technology and systems.

We’re looking for someone genuinely excited by the cross section of creativity and technology. Someone who can create something great once,

then start thinking about how we build a system that allows us to do it 100 times.

What should remain human? What can technology take care of? How can Leo interpret creative direction? Where does taste and judgement actually matter?

And finally, we need autonomy and leadership.

Someone we can trust with the beginning of an idea and know they’ll move it forward. Someone who can lead a project, make decisions, bring people with them, communicate their thinking and recognise when someone else’s idea is better than their own.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve managed a big team before. To us, leadership is also about ownership.

Your interests will probably extend well beyond design. Football, fashion, technology, brands, products, music, art, manufacturing, culture, business. Whatever it is.

We’re interested in people who pay attention to the world around them and find connections between things that don’t immediately seem connected.

Your work and the way you think will tell us considerably more than the number of years you’ve been doing it.

You might already be doing really good work somewhere, but feel like you’re capable of considerably more than you’re currently being asked to do.

That’s probably the sweet spot.

What you’ll getThis is a role with a lot of creative room.

You’ll work directly with the founders and closely with our product, design and commercial teams.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence the creative direction of Nardo itself, create work for clubs around the world and help shape the creative intelligence inside the technology we’re building.

That’s a pretty unusual opportunity.

The work won’t just live in Illustrator or Figma. It’ll end up on football pitches, in clubhouses, on supporters, across campaigns and digital products, at events and increasingly in different parts of the world.

We want someone in the middle of the creative conversation.

Someone who brings references into the office because they found something interesting. Someone who challenges an idea when they think there’s a better one. Someone who cares about the tiny details but can also zoom out and understand the bigger picture.

Someone who’s excited about the collision of design, technology, sport, product and culture.

And someone who wants to look back in a few years and see their fingerprints not only across a brand they helped build, but across the technology that helped scale it.

There’s a lot we haven’t figured out yet and that’s part of the opportunity.

The packageCompetitive salary + super

We’re more interested in finding the right person than forcing this role into an overly rigid definition of experience or seniority.

If you’re convinced all of this sounds like you, we’d like to meet you.

Show us the work you’re proud of.

But we’d also like to understand how you think. What you reference. What you’re interested in. How you’re using new technology in your creative process. And what you’d want to create if you had a bigger canvas to work with.

How to Apply

If you’re going to apply - write us a cover letter that will stop us in our tracks. Anything that sounds like a template slapped in front of a CV and a portfolio won’t move the needle.

Respond via this job ad and/or with an email to [email protected] with a letter that you think will convince us you'r right for this.
