Senior Manager - Advisory | Regulatory Reporting
Shape how a leading global financial services group represents its financial position, performance and activity to regulators and provide expert guidance to the business.
The opportunity
Join an established, high-performing specialist advisory team within a leading Australian-listed global financial services group. As a senior subject-matter expert, you will resolve complex accounting and classification questions, establish clear and defensible positions, and translate them into practical guidance that strengthens reporting integrity and gives the business confidence in its reporting. You will lead one direct report and advise reporting teams and senior stakeholders.
Your mandate is centred on statistical regulatory reporting to APRA and agencies including the ABS and RBA. You will connect accounting and financial reporting treatments to balance-sheet and P&L; outcomes, helping the organisation reach timely, consistent and defensible positions that strengthen reporting quality and manage operational risk. Dedicated teams lead return production, submission and governance, enabling you to focus on interpretation, analysis, judgement and advisory.
Prudential work is selective and focused on matters that intersect with the statistical reporting mandate, including engagement with capital, liquidity and Treasury teams where relevant.
What you will achieve
- Help the organisation make clear, defensible regulatory decisions. Take ownership of complex balance-sheet and statistical reporting questions. Work through the relevant reporting standards and guidance, establish the underlying facts, test interpretations and determine where skilled judgement is required.
- Connect accounting treatment to statistical reporting. Assess how accounting and financial reporting decisions affect regulatory classifications and balance-sheet and P&L; outcomes, creating a clear line of sight from the underlying transaction to its statistical reporting treatment.
- Find the issue behind the issue. Use forward-looking analysis and detailed reviews to trace unusual outcomes, inconsistencies and emerging changes to their source. Connect reporting logic, classifications, data and controls to strengthen reporting quality and resilience.
- Turn technical judgement into practical action.
Carry the thinking from interpretation through to implementation. Translate technical positions into clear reporting treatments, definitions, processes, controls and change requirements that reporting teams and business stakeholders can apply.
- Become a trusted adviser on questions that require judgement. Frame ambiguous problems, distinguish facts from assumptions, weigh alternative interpretations and give senior stakeholders concise advice on the issue, implications, options and recommended position.
- Support regulator- and agency-facing matters. Provide the technical explanation, evidence and constructive challenge required to communicate and support the organisation's position with external stakeholders.
- Build stronger technical and problem-solving capability around you. Lead and coach one direct report while contributing to a four-person specialist team. Share both technical knowledge and the thinking behind it, strengthening regulatory interpretation, accounting analysis, professional judgement and communication.
How you will work You will frame the technical question, interrogate the relevant reporting standards and guidance, establish the accounting treatment and classification, and form an independent view. Working across Regulatory Reporting, Finance, Financial Reporting, Treasury Finance, Risk, business teams and the relevant data, technology and change specialists, you will connect the technical conclusion to the practical reporting response.
What you will bring
- A business, commerce or related degree, a professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA or equivalent, and extensive experience in banking or financial services.
- Strong accounting foundations and the ability to connect accounting treatment, recognition, measurement and classification with balance-sheet and P&L; statistical reporting outcomes.
- Regulatory reporting judgement developed through personally interpreting requirements,
forming independent views and applying sound professional judgement where analysis matters.
- Meaningful technical capability in balance-sheet or statistical regulatory reporting. Economic and Financial Statistics experience is particularly valuable; capital, liquidity or Treasury reporting can demonstrate relevant transferable judgement.
- First-principles problem solving: the ability to establish the facts, identify the underlying problem, test assumptions and work through an unfamiliar issue to a practical conclusion.
- An understanding of how technical decisions flow into reporting logic, definitions, processes, controls, systems and change.
- Clear communication, influence and leadership across senior Finance and business stakeholders, together with the ability to develop a direct report.
Relevant experience may come from regulatory reporting, technical accounting, regulatory change, or financial services audit or advisory.
Why this role, why now
- Scale and complexity. A leading Australian-listed, high-performing global financial services group offers a breadth of products, reporting questions and accounting treatments that is difficult to replicate in a narrower environment.
- Scope and visibility. The role carries genuine ownership of complex interpretation and classification matters, with exposure across Group Finance, the broader business, senior stakeholders and external agencies.
- Team and leadership. You will join a high-performing four-person specialist advisory team, lead one direct report and build technical authority through the quality of the decisions you shape.
- Career mobility. All regulatory reporting teams sit within Group Finance.
After establishing impact and an appropriate tenure in the role, this structure supports upward and lateral mobility across adjacent regulatory reporting and broader Finance opportunities.
