We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Insurance Risk to join our Risk & Compliance team.

This is a specialist second-line risk role responsible for providing independent oversight, challenge and analysis of insurance risk across Avant's Medical Indemnity business.

Reporting to the Head of Group Risk & Compliance, you will work closely with actuarial, underwriting, product and pricing, and claims teams, providing credible risk oversight while helping shape and strengthen the insurance risk framework across the Group.

What You'll Be Doing

Key responsibilities include

- Providing independent second-line oversight across underwriting, pricing, reserving, claims and reinsurance risk
- Building strong business partnering relationships while maintaining clear Line 2 independence
- Reviewing and challenging actuarial assessments, reserve adequacy and insurance risk assumptions
- Monitoring claims trends, healthcare inflation, demographic shifts and other emerging risk drivers
- Maintaining and enhancing the Insurance Risk Framework, risk appetite measures and associated policies
- Supporting compliance with APRA prudential standards and regulatory requirements
- Translating complex insurance risk concepts into practical management and Board insights
- Developing high-quality risk reporting, dashboards, risk indicators and management information
- Providing risk input into strategic initiatives, product changes and business planning activities
- Promoting a strong risk culture across the organisation

About You





You are a technically strong insurance professional who enjoys providing independent challenge, influencing through expertise and partnering with senior stakeholders.

You will bring

- 8+ years' experience in insurance risk or a related insurance technical discipline
- Strong experience within general insurance, medical indemnity or other APRA-regulated insurance environments
- Sound understanding of underwriting, pricing, reserving and claims risk
- Experience reviewing actuarial analysis and interpreting insurance performance indicators
- Strong commercial judgement and analytical capability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information simply
- A collaborative approach with the confidence to provide constructive challenge
- Relevant qualifications in Actuarial Studies, Finance, Commerce, Statistics or a related discipline

Desirable qualifications include RMIA, FIAA, ANZIIF, CA or similar professional credentials.
