- Senior operational accounting role supporting a mining operation

An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Operations Accountant to join an established mining business based in Brisbane CBD. Reporting to the Financial Controller and managing an Operations Accountant, this role will take ownership of the financial reporting and analysis relating to the mining operation, while partnering closely with site and corporate stakeholders.

This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced mining accountant who understands operational cost drivers and can translate financial results into meaningful insights for the business.

The Role

- Own month-end reporting for the operation, including site accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, cost reporting, journals and financial integrity of the mine general ledger
- Deliver detailed cost and variance analysis across operational expenditure, inventory and production, including implementation and ongoing development of activity-based costing
- Manage key accounting processes across capex, the Fixed Asset Register, and inventory, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment and strong internal controls
- Support the annual budget and rolling forecast process, providing key inputs into EBITDA,



cash forecasting and mine-site performance reporting
- Partner closely with site leadership, procurement and Brisbane-based stakeholders to explain results, identify cost trends and variances, and provide meaningful financial insight to support operational decision-making

About You

- CA or CPA qualified with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
- 5+ years’ relevant accounting experience, with demonstrated exposure to mining or resources operations
- Strong understanding of mining cost structures, including operating costs, inventory, capex and the key financial drivers of a mine
- Proven experience preparing management reporting, analysing budget and forecast variances, and partnering with operational stakeholders
- Robust systems and Excel capability, ideally including ERP reporting, combined with experience mentoring a small accounting team

Experience working directly with mine owners would be particularly relevant, although candidates with strong operational accounting experience across broader mining environments will also be considered.
