Senior Solicitor, Client Access & Intake - Canberra

$115,550 - $133,050 per annum + super + salary packaging

Ongoing, full-time/part time The Women's Legal Centre ACT is seeking an experienced solicitor to lead our Client Access and Intake function. This is a unique opportunity to combine legal expertise, people leadership and service improvement in a role that makes a genuine difference to the lives of women in the ACT. This role leads the team that provides the gateway to all Centre services.

As the Senior Solicitor, Client Access & Intake, you will lead a team of Intake Officers and oversee the delivery of accessible, trauma-informed and culturally safe intake services. You will work closely with solicitors, social workers, cultural liaison officers and other practice leaders to ensure clients are connected to the most appropriate legal and non-legal supports.

This role is ideal for an experienced lawyer who enjoys mentoring staff, improving systems, strengthening client experiences and contributing to organisational strategy. While legal expertise remains central to the role, the focus is on leadership, service design, supervision and client access rather than court appearances or managing a significant litigation practice.

About you

You are an experienced lawyer with a passion for access to justice and a commitment to supporting women experiencing vulnerability, discrimination and gender-based violence:

- Identify as a woman, trans or non-binary person
- Hold a law degree and eligibility to hold and maintain an ACT Practising Certificate
- Hold a current Working with Vulnerable People registration or eligibility to hold
- Experience leading, supervising, coaching or mentoring staff

- Strong legal judgement and the ability to provide guidance on complex client issues
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A commitment to trauma-informed, culturally safe and client-centred practice
- The ability to think strategically, identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to organisational objectives
- Tech savviness

Most importantly, you will be someone who is motivated by the opportunity to use your legal skills in a leadership role that delivers meaningful outcomes for clients and contributes to broader systems change.

Why join us?

This role offers something different from many legal positions. You will have the opportunity to lead a critical function within a respected women's legal centre while enjoying a more sustainable and flexible way of practising law. There are no billable targets, no court commitments and a strong focus on collaboration, wellbeing and professional development.

This position may particularly appeal to:

- experienced lawyers looking to step away from the pressures of private practice
- parents and carers seeking greater flexibility and predictability
- lawyers returning to the workforce
- senior practitioners looking for a leadership role with purpose and impact
- experienced lawyers seeking a rewarding next chapter in their career

At WLC, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, innovation, reflective practice and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to contribute not only to individual client outcomes, but also to service development, law reform and advocacy that advances gender equality.

Who we are

At WLC, we improve women’s lives through specialist legal representation, support and advocacy, working alongside our clients to improve their safety, security and access to justice. Our work is grounded in feminist principles, trauma-informed practice and a commitment to creating meaningful, lasting change. We also believe that doing meaningful work should not come at the expense of having a life outside work. We are committed to being a feminist employer of choice, with working practices that recognise and support the realities of our employees’ lives. We support our people to balance work with personal, family, cultural and community responsibilities, and place genuine importance on wellbeing, gender equity and sustainable working practices.

If you're looking for a workplace where you can use your professional skills to make a difference, while being supported to build a career that works with the rest of your life, WLC could be the change you're looking for.
