Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.
The primary role of a Navy Hospitality Specialist (formerly known as a Steward) is to operate in the Officers' Messes (the recreational and dining areas) both at sea and ashore. They provide a range of hospitality services, catering to everyone from junior officers in the Navy to Heads of State and members of the Royal Family-serving groups as small as 10 or as large as 500.
Your role is varied and includes, but is not limited to, providing table service for up to three meals a day, bartending, and setting up and serving at official functions such as cocktail parties, formal dinners, buffets, and morning or afternoon teas.
You will also provide VIP support at high-profile international and diplomatic functions, both in Current Zealand and overseas.
You will begin your career with initial and professional training before gaining experience through practical, supervised on-the-job training at the Devonport Navy Base's Officers' Mess. Subsequent postings ashore and at sea will follow, with opportunities to obtain external, industry-recognized NZQA qualifications. Further training will support your professional development and career progression within the Navy and the wider Defence Force.
