We are looking for an experienced and detail-focused Sheet Metal Production Programmer & Scheduler to join our Metal Shop team.
About the Role
Reporting to the Production Manager, you'll coordinate and schedule manufacturing activities to ensure customer orders are produced efficiently, accurately and on time. The role combines production planning and scheduling using Pronto ERP with CNC programming for our turret shear and panel bender, laser cutter, and turret punch.
You'll play a key role in maximising production efficiency, minimising machine downtime and material waste, and keeping production information accurate and up to date.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain daily and weekly production schedules based on customer requirements and delivery dates.
- Schedule work across laser, turret punch, turret shear, panel bender, press brakes and associated production processes.
- Prioritise production jobs according to customer due dates, material availability, machine capacity and production requirements.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules when delays, breakdowns, material shortages or priority jobs arise.
- Coordinate with Production, Purchasing, Stores, Fabrication and Management to ensure production requirements are understood and achievable.
- Utilise Pronto ERP to manage and monitor production orders, job status, material requirements and scheduling information.
- Prepare and optimise cutting,
folding and punching programs for the turret shear + panel bender (Prima Power ncExpress + Tulus Office), turret punch (MetaCAM) and laser cutter (BySoft CAM + Plant Manager).
- Optimise nesting and cutting plans to maximise material utilisation and minimise scrap.
- Review drawings and CAD files for manufacturability and ensure programs reflect current approved drawings and revisions.
- Work with operators to resolve programming or cutting issues and support investigation and resolution of production errors and rework.
About You
You'll bring a practical, production-focused approach and enjoy keeping a busy manufacturing floor running to schedule.
You'll also bring:
- Experience in metal fabrication, with exposure to turret, laser and metal folding processes.
- Strong understanding of sheet-metal manufacturing processes, including material utilisation, nesting and scrap reduction.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and changing production requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with production personnel, management and support departments.
- Ability to work under pressure,
meet deadlines and work independently while contributing to a broader production team.
Desirable Skills
- Experience programming CNC laser, turret punch and/or shear machinery.
- Experience with specific laser/turret punch control systems such as Prima, Bystronic or Yawei.
- Experience with Pronto ERP or a similar production planning/scheduling system.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Trade or degree qualification, or relevant manufacturing qualification.
- Experience working with steel, aluminium and stainless-steel fabrication.
Pre-Employment Requirements
This role requires a pre-employment medical assessment prior to commencement.
