About the role
Emmitt Utilities is seeking a Traffic Controller to join our team on a casual basis. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and smooth flow of traffic at our sites. As a Traffic Controller, you will be responsible for managing vehicle and pedestrian movements, implementing traffic management plans, and maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel on site. This is an essential role that directly contributes to the health, safety, and efficiency of our operations.
Although this position is based in Bendigo, the successful candidate will be required to attend project locations throughout the state of Victoria.
What you'll be doing
- Directing and controlling traffic flow at construction and utilities sites in accordance with approved traffic management plans
- Positioning and maintaining traffic control devices, including signs, cones, barriers and lights
- Communicating with site personnel, drivers and the public using hand signals, radios and other communication methods
- Monitoring site conditions and adjusting traffic management procedures as required to maintain safety
- Responding promptly to traffic incidents, hazards and emergencies on site
- Maintaining accurate records of traffic control activities and incidents
- Completing daily safety checks and reporting any defects or concerns
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant traffic management regulations and company policies
- Assisting in the setup and breakdown of traffic management equipment
What we're looking for
- Valid Traffic Management Certification as per current Austroads requirements (RIISS00059 and RIISS00061)
- Current Driver's Licence (Category C or higher)
- Current First Aid Certificate (Provide First Aid or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of traffic management principles and road safety practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions precisely
- Physical fitness to stand for extended periods and manage traffic control equipment
- High level of attention to detail and situational awareness
- Ability to remain calm and professional in busy or stressful situations
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings and weekends as required
- Previous experience in traffic control is required
- Ability to work throughout Victoria when required.
