The Opportunity
A new opportunity has become available for an experienced accounting skilled to join Maitland City Council and play a key role in strengthening the connection between Asset Management and Finance.
As our Asset Accountant, you will provide governance and oversight of Council's asset accounting function, ensuring asset information is accurate, consistent and supports both financial reporting and long-term asset planning.
Working across Asset Management, Finance and Project Delivery, you will oversee the accounting treatment of capital expenditure, asset componentisation and classifications, monitor Work in Progress and coordinate asset revaluations. You will also contribute to financial statements, audit requirements and the ongoing improvement of asset management processes.
This is an opportunity to take a strategic role in ensuring Council has a clear and reliable view of its assets, while influencing how asset information supports financial sustainability and informed decision-making.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, together with demonstrated experience in asset accounting or a similar accounting role.
You will have strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to interpret and apply relevant accounting standards, particularly in relation to capitalisation, depreciation, asset valuations and asset registers. You will also possess:
- Demonstrated experience managing and analysing complex financial and asset information.
- Knowledge of asset accounting principles, including capitalisation, componentisation, depreciation and revaluations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across Finance, Asset Management and Project Delivery.
- Experience supporting financial reporting, audit processes and statutory requirements.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
Experience within local government or a similar public sector environment will be highly regarded.
Benefits
This is a full-time, permanent role working a 35-hour week, with a base salary range of $110,153 - $122,270 per year + 12% super.
