EXPLORATION MANAGER

Permanent | Work From Home | NSW & WA Projects

Technical exploration leadership. Genuine autonomy. And remarkably little interest in where you happen to keep your laptop.

There are Exploration Manager roles where you manage meetings, spreadsheets and other people who actually do the geology. This isn't one of them.

We are working with a successful Australian explorer entering a significant next phase across a major project in Central NSW, together with an earlier-stage project in WA. The portfolio spans critical, base, precious and battery-related mineral systems, with plenty of drilling ahead and considerably more exploration still to be done.

The NSW project already has a substantial amount of deposit-scale work behind it, but this isn't simply a case of drilling another 20 holes into something everybody already understands. There is resource growth work, regional reconnaissance, target generation and a lot of geology still requiring someone capable of joining the dots. And preferably joining the right dots......

THE GEOLOGY
Intrusion related gold systems are particularly relevant to the style of mineralisation and exploration thinking required. Experience with porphyry systems would translate very well, while a strong structural/orogenic background could also work. We are not looking for somebody whose experience matches one deposit model down to the last alteration mineral. Exploration principles haven't changed quite that much.

What matters more is that you've worked across the exploration spectrum - ideally from regional targeting through discovery and into deposit-scale/resource drilling - and understand when to zoom out, when to zoom in and when an anomaly is just an anomaly despite everybody desperately wanting it to be a discovery.

There is also a significant geophysics component to the role. IP and gravity are important datasets, combined heavily with soil geochemistry, structural interpretation and positive old-fashioned geological thinking.
You don't need to personally process every geophysical dataset, but you absolutely need to understand what you're looking at,

interrogate it properly and integrate it into an exploration strategy.

THE ROLE
This is a genuine Exploration Manager position, but in a relatively small team - so hiding behind the word "Manager" won't work particularly well. You'll help drive exploration strategy, targeting and program design across both projects; oversee resource and exploration drilling; integrate geology, geochemistry and geophysics; guide the field team and technical consultants; assess regional opportunities; and make sensible decisions about where the next exploration dollar should go.

Work programs are expected to step up materially following a resource update later this month, so this role is being recruited for where the company is going - not simply where it is today.

You will ideally bring 15+ years' exploration experience, although we're considerably more interested in what you've actually done during those years than whether LinkedIn says 14 years and 11 months.

You should have strong hands-on exploration and targeting experience; deposit-scale and resource drilling exposure; regional/greenfields exploration capability; relevant experience across Intrusion Related Gold, porphyry, structurally controlled and/or orogenic mineral systems; a good working understanding of IP, gravity, geochemistry and integrated targeting; and experience leading exploration programs and technical teams.

You also need the confidence to make decisions without requiring a committee meeting every time a drill rig needs to move 50 metres, and enough commercial awareness to understand that metres drilled and money spent are not, by themselves, measures of exploration success.

AND THEN THERE'S LAND ACCESS...
This matters. A lot.
Formal land access agreements are established at senior management level,

while the field team manages the day-to-day relationships - but the Exploration Manager still needs to understand that access to someone's property is a privilege, not a geological entitlement. You need to be equally comfortable discussing an exploration model with a technical audience and talking normally to a farmer over the bonnet of a ute. Having a beer at the local pub won't hurt either.
Basically: know your geology, respect landholders and don't be a dickhe@d. Remarkably effective exploration strategy.

WHERE DO YOU NEED TO LIVE?
Here's one of the genuinely unusual parts. You don't need to relocate to, or be based in Perth.
Head office is in Perth (& fine if you're based there), but given the location of the major project, the preference is actually for someone based in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide. The role offers a rare mix of work from home + ad hoc Central NSW site visits + occasional WA project and Perth office trips.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to take genuine technical ownership of an exploration portfolio at exactly the point where activity is increasing - without inheriting five layers of corporate bureaucracy between having an idea and testing it.
If you're an Exploration Geologist who's still genuinely excited by exploration, enjoys pulling multiple datasets together and wouldn't mind having considerably more influence over what gets drilled next, it's probably worth an application.
