About the School

St Michael’s Grammar School, a leading independent co-educational school in St Kilda, is seeking a Finance Officer (Accounts Receivable/Assistant Accountant) to join our Finance Team in a full-time, ongoing capacity. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide accurate, timely and high-quality financial and accounting support while building positive relationships across the School community. The role is responsible for assisting with month-end accounting processes, reconciliations, audit preparation and financial reporting, while managing the accounts receivable function, including tuition fee billing, debtor management and stakeholder enquiries.

This opportunity is ideal for a recent accounting or finance graduate seeking to build a career in accounting and financial administration, or for an experienced professional looking to develop practical experience across a broad range of finance activities within a collaborative and supportive team.

The Role

You will be responsible for assisting the team in aspects of the finance function, including:

- Tuition fee and debtor management.
- Customer invoicing and statements.
- Follow up on overdue accounts and outstanding payments.
- Liaise with parents regarding account enquiries and payment matters.
- Process periodic instalment payments and maintain accurate payment records.
- Prepare reports on collection activities and monitor the effectiveness of debt collection processes.
- Process monthly tuition fee instalments and any additional student-related charges.
- General Ledger reconciliations.
- Journal entries.
- Month end processing.
- Bank reconciliations.
- Audit preparation support.
- Support the Finance team as and when required.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

- Accounting Certificate or Degree is preferred.
- Background in the education sector is desirable.
- Knowledge of PayWay and Synergetic systems are preferred but not essential.




- Must hold a current Employee Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain.
- National Police History Check (Obtained within the last six months).
