About the role
As an experienced Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial and financial success of the business for our Southlink and Link SA business units in South Australia based primarily at our Mt Barker depot. You will effectively maintain efficient finance and administration processes including the payroll function. You will be an active member of the management team, focusing on the key result areas of safety, people and service delivery while enhancing financial performance.
Key responsibilities
- Contract Management and compliance
- Build trusting relationships with key clients and contract managers
- Report and monitor contract performance indicators and abatements
- Maximise overall business financials via activities including application of contract variations, cost control of labour and supplier expenses
- Monitor company cash, funding and financial guarantees
- Assist in development of the Business plan, encompassing planning for safety, people, service quality and financial performance including developing and following up actions with Operational teams
- Conduct analysis of revenue and expenditure, report on findings and provide recommendations on variances, issues and trends
- Prepare annual and 5-year revenue and expenditure, balance sheet, cash flow and investment budgets
- Prepare regular and ad hoc reports for the Management team about financial performance, including analysis of variances from budgets
- Approve major purchases, payments, accounting journal entries and write-offs within delegation, and ensure managers comply with delegations
- Record and manage the financial impact of physical and property assets to ensure they are protected and controlled in accordance with accounting standards, Group standards and audit requirements
- Manage administration in areas including revenue (invoicing), accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
- Manage and review the financial and administrative procedures to ensure compliance with the legislative requirements, payroll tax, superannuation, insurances, fringe benefits tax, company policies, and quality systems
- Take responsibility and be accountable for actions to mitigate risks related to Finance
- Ensure management of all Information Systems and contractors (systems include Austrics, NetBI, Telematics, MyOSH, TIMS,
MicOpay and Microsoft Dynamics GP)
- Manage and oversee the finance and administrative team including effective development and resource planning with the support of the Senior Accountant
About you
- Significant experience operating in similar senior Finance capacity.
- Leading the finance and payroll functions in a complex business
- Tertiary qualification in accounting with membership to CPA Australia or Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA), or equivalent experience in finance and accounting
- Extensive knowledge and experience in accounting and administrative procedures, including payroll
- Expert level in reporting, financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to facilitate business planning processes
- Experience of leading commercial negotiations
- Excellent knowledge in using accounting and financial systems, and other MS Office applications (including PowerBi and PowerQuery)
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics GP Accounting and Sage MicrOpay (payroll) would be an advantage
- Work experience in the public transport industry or bus operations would be a plus
- Strong leadership and team management skills, including motivating and developing team members
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills for consultation with the Public Transport Authority (client) and all levels within the organisation (internal)
- Strong negotiation skills and high integrity for commercial confidence
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines efficiently and effectively
- Well-developed oral, written communication and presentation skills
