The Role:

Clinipath Pathology is seeking an experienced Histology professional to join our team as an Evening Shift Supervisor. This role combines hands-on bench work with supervisory oversight, ensuring our Histology department runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently during evening operations.

Reporting to the Scientist in Charge of the Histology department, you'll supervise evening shift workflows while remaining actively involved in bench-level work — from specimen reception through to staining and slide allocation. You'll play a key role in maintaining high-quality, diagnostically accurate results while supporting your team and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Hours of Work:

The successful candidate must be available to work 3:00pm–11:00pm, Monday to Friday, with hours subject to change depending on operational needs (e.g. covering leave or short-staffed shifts). This role also includes working either Saturday or Sunday, 9:00am–5:00pm, on alternating weeks.

Key Responsibilities:

- Supervise evening shift workflows, ensuring efficient task completion, adequate staffing, and smooth operations

- Participate in weekend roster rotations to maintain consistent supervisory coverage





- Open complex specimens in preparation for dissection and oversee specimen processing

- Perform and maintain competency across all bench-level tasks, including specimen reception, accessioning, cut up, processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E; and special stains, IHC, frozen sections, and allocation

- Support EQA (External Quality Assurance) and IQC (Internal Quality Control) processes

- Collaborate with the Senior Scientist, 2IC, and other supervisors to manage workflow and support continuous service delivery

- Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, training, competency assessment, and performance feedback

- Oversee equipment maintenance, cleaning, and safe operation of laboratory instruments

- Maintain stock levels within the department

- Troubleshoot operational and technical issues, liaising with professionals both within the company and externally as required

- Promote safe work practices and maintain compliance with accreditation standards

About You

Essential:

- AIMS-accredited bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or equivalent

- Minimum 3 years' professional Histology experience, with proven skills in embedding, microtomy, dissection, and performing and interpreting special stains and IHC techniques

Desirable:

- Confident IT user with LIMS experience

- Experience training new staff

- Familiarity with NATA accreditation requirements and associated documentation

- Strong customer service orientation and a positive, change-ready approach
