About the role

You'll run the Saturday session of a community bakery program where young people with disability get their first paid work experience. You'll be on the floor alongside four to six participants, breaking recipes into achievable steps, adjusting on the fly when a task isn't landing, and reading the room when someone's had enough. You'll direct the volunteers rostered on and hold food safety and allergen controls without exception. There's no manager standing behind you during the session — you'll make the calls. The other seven hours are yours to schedule during the week for preparation, progress notes, participant reviews, and conversations with families and support coordinators.

Key responsibilities

- Teach young people with disability practical job skills in a real bakery setting

- Break recipes and tasks into steps participants can achieve

- Adjust teaching approach on the fly based on participant response

- Direct volunteers rostered on during Saturday sessions

- Maintain food safety and allergen controls without exception

- Make independent decisions during sessions

- Prepare for sessions and complete progress notes during weekday hours

- Conduct participant reviews

- Communicate with families and support coordinators

About you

- A qualification in disability support, education support or community services — or the experience to match it

- Real experience with young people with intellectual disability, autism or complex support needs

- The ability to teach a physical task, not just supervise one

- A working understanding of positive behaviour support

- Sound independent judgement

- Working with Children Clearance, NDIS Worker Screening Check, current First Aid and CPR

- Commercial kitchen or bakery experience is a bonus, not a requirement

Benefits

- $44.00/hr weekday, $66.00/hr Saturday, plus 12% superannuation — above the SCHADS Award at every hour

- A permanent part-time role, not casual — the same participants every week

- Paid time built in for preparation and documentation

- Genuine scope for hours to grow as the program scales

- Paid training and certifications including Food Safety Supervisor certificate, anaphylaxis training and NDIS orientation module
