About the role:

A NSW Government department is seeking a Data Analyst to support the development of a recent Data Strategy and Data Governance Frameworks. You will work closely with key stakeholders across the department and confidently bridge the gap between business requirements, strategy, and data in a government environment.
Hourly rate: $50-$55 + Super an hour
Sydney, Parramatta location
3 days remote working a week
Immediate start
Temporary until January, 2027 - Full-time

Key Responsibilities:
Support the development of the department's Data Strategy through research, analysis, and strategic documentation
Assist in developing the Data Governance Framework, including policies, standards, metadata, and data ownership
Ensure alignment with NSW Government data, digital, and compliance frameworks
Engage with business units, IT teams, and stakeholders to gather requirements and develop strategic recommendations
Prepare briefing papers, presentations, reports, and supporting materials for senior executives
Support system and data landscape mapping, identifying gaps and prospects for improvement




Work closely with the Data Strategy Lead to deliver strategic data initiatives and provide recommendations aligned with government best practice

To be successful:
Previous experience working in a government or public sector environment
Solid stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to work across business and technical teams
Experience contributing to data strategy, data governance, business analysis, or digital transformation initiatives
Understanding of government data governance, compliance frameworks, and policy environments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive briefings and presentations.
Ability to work autonomously, interpret policies and frameworks, and provide strategic recommendations with minimal direction
Technical data experience (such as SQL, Power BI, Python, or similar) is advantageous, although the initial focus of the role will be strategy and governance rather than hands-on data analysis
Experience with data systems or digital transformation projects will be highly regarded
