This is an ongoing position. The monastery is seeking a suitably qualified candidate who is an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident to be considered for this role. Duties include:
Prepare and conduct daily, weekly, and monthly religious activities, programs, and sermons.
Conduct meditation training programs.
Attend to the spiritual needs of congregants by providing blessings, counselling, spiritual guidance, and religious education.
Guide, teach, and mentor trainee and assistant monks.
Engage with devotees with a robust focus on service, compassion, and spiritual support.
Provide guidance and support to young people in following the Buddhist way of life.
Advise and guide the directors of the monastery in carrying out their responsibilities and activities.
Advise and guide welfare and community service activities organised by the monastery within South Australia.
Perform administrative duties of the monastery,
including infrastructure development and ongoing maintenance activities.
Coordinate and work collaboratively with branch monasteries and other Buddhist temples in Australia and overseas.
Qualifications and experience:
Follows and teaches the Theravada Buddhist tradition.
Has completed a minimum of five years and nine months of structured religious and administrative training as part of the process of becoming a Buddhist monk.
Maintains a life of exemplary conduct in accordance with the high standards of monastic discipline, including adherence to the 227 monastic precepts and the vow of poverty.
Is fully ordained within the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastic
Order.
Has at least 10 years of experience as an ordained Buddhist monk.
Has experience serving as a Chief Monk at Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery branches in Australia, Sri Lanka, or other countries.
Is fluent in Sinhala.
Verbal English language skills are desirable.
