Regular opportunities for professional development to assist you to reach your career goalsCulture of continuous improvementAbout Continence ClinicThe Continence Clinic is a specialist service that applies a multi‐disciplinary team approach to the assessment and management of bladder and bowel issues or pelvic floor dysfunction.
We service adults in the geographical areas of the Cities of Darebin, Yarra and Boroondara and Melbourne.
It is a multidisciplinary clinic consisting of nurses, physiotherapists, geriatricians, and admin staff.
The service is based at St George's Hospital.Local Work EnvironmentThis position is part of the Health Independence Program (HIP).
The intent of HIP is to deliver improved outcomes for clients and to support hospital demand management and flow, through delivering integrated and coordinated care to clients across the hospital and community interface,



reducing duplication and fragmentation of services and ensuring client centred care planning.
SVHM HIP consists of integrated hub sites across several locations including in Fitzroy, Kew, North Richmond and Fairfield.
The Access, Rehab and Clinics Stream consists of multidisciplinary intake unit, outpatient rehabilitation programmes and Specialist Clinics including the Continence Clinic which is currently based at Kew and Fitzroy.
The Continence Clinic provides specialist assessment and management of both urinary and faecal incontinence to people over 16 years of age in the geographical areas of the Cities of Darebin, Yarra and Boroondara and Melbourne.
This position may be required to work from any of the SVHM HIP sites and may be required to work within any of the HIP programs.
This will be at the discretion of the HIP manager and will take into consideration appropriate skills and training.Position PurposeThe Continence Physiotherapist will coordinate the specialist assessment and management strategies for clients referred with continence problems including pelvic floor rehabilitation and pain.
Educational, supervisory responsibilities, evaluation and quality improvement activities will also be undertaken.Position DutiesProvide highly demonstrable specialist assessment and management interventions for both urinary and faecal incontinence and associated disorders.Complete comprehensive and evidence based assessments, care planning and treatment especially pelvic floor rehabilitation for outpatient clients who are experiencing continence difficulties.Conduct pelvic floor group program including evaluationEvaluate treatment /management using appropriate objective measuresParticipate in triage of referrals as requiredParticipate in patient goal setting at multidisciplinary case review meetings.Provide specialist education and advice to colleagues and clients regarding continence management and pelvic floor rehabilitation.Manage the discharge process for clientsWork in close liaison with colleagues, other key service providers, families and careers relevant to caseloadEstablish and maintain effective working relationships within the Continence team, HIP, referral sources and other agencies.Act as a key resource person within the Continence Service and HIP.Communicate client issues effectively with other team membersIdentify opportunities for improvement of service delivery and implement approved strategies to address these.Contribute to the ongoing development and updating of current departmental clinical literature and resources as requested.Participate in project working groups / quality improvement initiatives to improve the serviceAchieve activity targets and complete activity statistics by end of working week or 3rd day of next month (whichever comes first)Complete medical record documentation to required standards and on the day of interventionSelection CriteriaMinimum of 7 years physiotherapy experienceKnowledge of relevant continence specific community resources and services.Demonstrated sound knowledge of current evidence based practices in the area of continence assessment, management and evaluation.Ability to assess and treat incontinence including undertaking vaginal and rectal examinations in women and rectal examinations in men, as appropriate.Ability to provide electrical stimulation and biofeedback training as appropriate in women and men.Ability to plan and carry out evaluative research in physiotherapy and continence practice at the level of beginning researcher.Demonstrated ability to work alone or within an interdisciplinary team.Highly developed organisational, planning and problem solving skills.Highly developed interpersonal skills including excellent communication and leadership skills.Highly developed documentation and computer skills with Microsoft office, Microsoft Word and Excel and Power Point.Well‐developed teaching and education skills.Essential Registration, License or Qualification RequirementsBachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) or equivalentCurrent registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)Postgraduate qualification in the treatment of continence and pelvic floorOther Non Essential RequirementsHighly desirable Member of Continence Foundation of Australia and CFA Vic Physiotherapy Special Interest Group & or member of Australian Physiotherapy Association Continence and Women's Health Physiotherapy GroupClosing Date21 September *******:59pmReconciliation Action PlanAt St Vincent's we acknowledge the importance of creating a work environment that is welcoming, safe, equitable and inclusive for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Employees.
