The Role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Audit Officer to join a six-month project focused on auditing and reconciling employee leave balances. You will play a key role in reviewing annual, personal, long service and prior service leave balances following the transition from a legacy system to a new HRMIS payroll system.

Discrepancies have been identified across employee leave records, with up to 530 employees potentially impacted. This is a hands-on audit role requiring strong attention to detail, confidence working with large volumes of data and the ability to identify and clearly document discrepancies.

The role is based in Canberra with flexible working arrangements available, but some attendance in the office will be required on nominated days to review and audit physical employee records.

You will be joining a small, values driven agency who undertaking major uplift work.

This position will be offered at either the APS6 or EL1 level depending on your experience.

Duties

- Conduct detailed audits of annual, personal, long service and prior service leave balances.
- Review and reconcile leave data between legacy and current payroll systems.
- Identify discrepancies and accurately document findings.
- Manually analyse and validate payroll data using Excel.
- Prepare clear and structured reports outlining discrepancies and recommended corrections.
- Support documentation and administrative requirements associated with rectification activities.




- Review physical employee records to validate historical leave information.

To be considered for this role you will have

- Demonstrated experience auditing and reconciling employee leave balances with a background in finance or payroll ~ this is essential
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with spreadsheets and large datasets ~ also essential
- Ideally you'll have a strong understanding of Australian Government and APS payroll requirements and knowledge of relevant employment legislation, industrial instruments, policies and compliance obligations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with spreadsheets and large datasets.
- A current police check within the last 6 months, or the ability to obtain one
