About the role
Band 4 Role - Final salary offering to be discussed with the preferred candidate based on skills and experience
TasNetworks is delivering one of Tasmania's most significant infrastructure programs - the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD). We're seeking an experienced Work Inspector - Civil & Vegetation to provide field-based oversight, quality assurance and safe delivery of civil and vegetation works across our transmission and distribution network.
In this role, you'll be the eyes and ears of TasNetworks on site - ensuring contractors meet technical standards, safety requirements and project milestones, while maintaining reliable service to customers. You'll verify compliance against design specifications, identify non-conformances, issue site directives under delegation, and support timely completion of works in line with contractual obligations.
This role is ideal for someone with strong civil and vegetation construction experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to influence outcomes in a fast-paced field environment.
What you'll do
- Conduct routine inspections of civil and vegetation works across transmission and distribution assets, verifying compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Monitor contractor performance, workmanship and safety, identifying non-conformances and escalating corrective actions as required.
- Issue site directives under the delegation framework to maintain program momentum and manage scope changes.
- Validate contractor payment claims through accurate measurement, capture and confirmation of completed works.
- Maintain high-quality records, inspection reports, defect logs and audit documentation.
- Ensure all works comply with safety legislation, environmental obligations and TasNetworks service delivery standards.
- Participate in incident investigations, risk assessments and safe work method reviews.
- Liaise with contractors, project engineers and site supervisors to support timely delivery of project milestones.
- Support network reliability and response activities as required.
- Work independently across dispersed project sites, contributing to a self-directed, high-performance team.
About you
You're an experienced civil or vegetation construction professional with strong field-based judgement and a deep understanding of utility infrastructure. You notice issues early, understand how design translates to practical execution,
and can influence contractors to achieve high-quality outcomes.
You will also bring:
- Cert III in Civil Construction or equivalent.
- Cert II in ESI - Powerline Vegetation Control, or relevant industry experience/accreditation.
- Strong capability interpreting civil drawings, tables, engineering codes and safety legislation.
- Experience using project management software, inspection tools and reporting applications.
- Competency with surveying instruments (total stations, laser levels) and specialised metering devices.
- Ability to identify minor deviations from design specifications and ensure re-work is completed correctly.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently across remote or dispersed sites.
- A valid Australian Driver's Licence.
