Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Registered Nurses who are passionate about pursuing a career as a Registered Midwife in our 2027 Graduate Diploma of Midwifery Program.

Successful applicants will be employed by Northern Health and undertake their clinical learning within our maternity services while completing the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery at La Trobe University.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

As a Student Midwife / Registered Nurse, you will undertake your clinical placements within Northern Health's Women's and Children's Division across our Epping and Craigieburn campuses





This employment model enables Registered Nurses to gain paid clinical experience while completing the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery at La Trobe University. Successful applicants will be supported by experienced midwives, educators and multidisciplinary teams throughout their learning journey.

Graduate Diploma of Midwifery (Clinical Placement) Program Overview

- Fixed Term Part-Time employment at 64 hours per fortnight (0.8 EFT) over 12 months
- 0.4 EFT postnatal clinical role
- Two orientation days plus four supernumerary postnatal shifts
- 0.4 EFT supernumerary student midwife experience across antenatal, labour, birth, domiciliary and neonatal services

Clinical Support

- Access to experienced Clinical Midwifery Educators and Clinical Support Midwives, with support available across AM and PM shifts, 5-6 days per week.
- Assistance with Continuity of Care Experiences (CoCEs)

- Ongoing clinical support and professional development beyond the program

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA




- Have at least 1 year of acute care experience as a Registered Nurse at time of commencement in Feb 2027
- Successfully applied to our partner University La Trobe to undertake the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery Program
- Be passionate about providing woman and family centered care across the midwifery continuum.
- Available to work a 0.8 EFT rotating roster
