About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Grade 3 Physiotherapist to join the Physiotherapy Department at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. In this senior role, you will provide clinical leadership and coordinate the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy services across SVHM’s Residential Aged Care facilities at Berengarra, Prague House and Auburn House. You will provide expert physiotherapy assessment and management for residents while supporting excellence in clinical practice across the service. The role also has a strong focus on leadership, supervision, quality improvement and research, including the professional development of junior physiotherapists, students and Allied Health Assistants. Classification: VB7–VC1 ($104,135 - $118, 981 per annum).

Duties include

Lead and coordinate the delivery of physiotherapy services across Berengarra, Prague House and Auburn House

Provide comprehensive physiotherapy assessment, treatment and clinical management for residents

Provide expert physiotherapy consultation across other clinical areas as required

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, care planning and clinical decision-making

Provide supervision, support and professional development to junior physiotherapists, students and Allied Health Assistants

Lead and contribute to research, quality improvement and service development initiatives within Residential Aged Care

Promote evidence-based practice and high standards of physiotherapy care across the service

Your Contribution

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Current registration as a Physiotherapist with AHPRA, or eligibility for registration

A minimum of seven years’ post-graduate physiotherapy experience

Broad experience and demonstrated knowledge of physiotherapy management within Residential Aged Care

Demonstrated leadership skills and extensive experience in the supervision and professional development of physiotherapists, students and support staff

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

A relevant post-graduate qualification in physiotherapy, or current progress towards one, would be highly regarded

Position Summary

The Grade 3 Physiotherapist is responsible for providing high-quality, person-centred and evidence-based physiotherapy services across St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne’s three Residential Aged Care homes: Berengarra in Kew, Prague House in Kew and Auburn House in Hawthorn East. These services support residents with a diverse range of care needs, including general residential aged care,



aged persons’ mental health and residents with a history of homelessness. Working closely with Residential Aged Care leadership and the broader multidisciplinary team, the Grade 3 Physiotherapist provides clinical leadership to promote best practice and support optimal health, wellbeing, function and quality of life for residents.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing comprehensive physiotherapy assessment, treatment and clinical management for residents

Ensuring physiotherapy care is person-centred, evidence-based and aligned with the Aged Care Quality Standards

Providing clinical leadership and supporting the coordination and management of physiotherapy services within Residential Aged Care

Supervising and supporting junior physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and other team members

Participating in multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds and resident care planning

Providing education and training to physiotherapy staff, assistants, students and other relevant team members

Leading and contributing to quality improvement, research, service evaluation and service development activities

Supporting the implementation of departmental policies, procedures and clinical guidelines

Promoting continuous improvement, innovation and high standards of clinical practice across the service.

Essential Requirements

Physiotherapy degree and current AHPRA registration

Recent experience and demonstrated knowledge of physiotherapy management within a Residential Aged Care setting

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement

Experience in, or willingness to develop skills in, clinical teaching and supervision

Sound understanding of relevant aged care legislation, principles of aged care and the Aged Care Quality Standards

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Commitment to staff development, professional development and research

NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable: Relevant postgraduate physiotherapy courses or postgraduate qualifications, as well as previous involvement in research and conference presentations.
