The role drives the development of forward-looking policy initiatives, supports government priorities and election commitments, and provides authoritative advice on complex environmental, conservation and portfolio-wide issues. It leads Queensland’s engagement on national environmental policy matters, including coordination with the Australian Government and Environment Ministers’ Meetings.
The position oversees significant policy projects, Cabinet and Ministerial advice, interagency and intergovernmental collaboration, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and the development of major departmental outputs, including the State of the Environment Report.

The Director, Strategic Policy and Insights, leads a team of approximately 10 FTEs to provide strategic direction, professional policy guidance and high-quality policy leadership for the Environment and Heritage and Policy Programs Division (EHPP) and the department.

The role supports DETSI to deliver on strategic government priorities including government election commitments,



charter letter commitments and other forwardlooking strategic policy advice on complex environment, conservation and portfoliowide policy matters. The role also leads Queensland's engagement with the Australian Government on national environmental policy matters, including the biannual Environment Ministers' Meetings.

The role coordinates and leads strategic policy priorities for EHPP and DETSI, including proactive planning of future policy initiatives, the forward policy program, whole-of-department responses, and the development of a consistent departmental position on significant intergovernmental and intragovernmental matters. This includes leading or reviewing Cabinet submissions, briefs, responses to other agencies, and advice to the Minister, senior executives and Queensland Government officials.

The Director also leads intergovernmental environmental policy and interagency work, including participation in interdepartmental committees, national environmental policy processes, Olympics-related policy matters, and the embedding of monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement frameworks. As the Director, you will oversee the development of the next State of the Workplace Report as well as prepare advice to the Minister, Director-General, and Executive Leadership Team on challenging and complex strategic policy issues.
